“Nance: Debbie Wasserman Schultz owes an apology to all victims of abuse.”
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, Democratic National Committee Chair, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, likened Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker’s voting record to actual physical violence against women. According to The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Florida congresswoman said: “Scott Walker has given women the back of his hand. I know that is stark. I know that is direct. But that is reality,” citing examples of Walker’s opposition to a minimum wage hike and blockage of a 2012 bill that would have benefited plaintiffs’ attorneys. Wasserman Schultz also said, “What Republican tea party extremists like Scott Walker are doing is they are grabbing us by the hair and pulling us back. It is not going to happen on our watch.”

“Debbie Wasserman Schultz owes an apology to all victims of abuse. It is degrading and outrageous to make false personal accusations rather than discuss real and complicated issues of economic policy. She erroneously conflated physical violence with a political disagreement. The so-called ‘war on women’ rhetoric may be a convenient political narrative but she has crossed the line into character assassination. This kind of hyperbolic tantrum demeans the struggle of real victims equating men who disagree with her views with men who beat women. That only makes her seem unserious and degrades her own effectiveness. Shame on Debbie! She needs to apologize to Scott Walker and victims of abuse.”
