In 2013, the battle we face is an attack against the American Constitution and the Judeo-Christian values we hold dear. On June 26, the Biblical view of marriage was mocked by the highest court in our land and by the deafening applause from the highest leaders of our government.
Concerned Women for America’s (CWA) Chief Executive Officer and President, Penny Nance, stated the following: “By deeming the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) unconstitutional, five justices of the Supreme Court rewrite more than a thousand federal laws that were written with the traditional definition of marriage in mind and overturn the will of more than seven million Californians who voted twice to protect marriage as the union between one man and one woman.”
The hope we have is in our victorious Lord God and King, Who says: “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them” (2 Kings 6:16). When it seems the darkest, His light shines the brightest.
So what does this mean for North Carolina, a shining light to the nation?
Let us reflect on the words of the late Sen. James S. Forrester, Senior, primary author and sponsor of the constitutional marriage amendment. In 2012, North Carolinians overwhelming affirmed through a constitutional marriage amendment the traditional definition of marriage, as between one man and one woman. The Supreme Court’s rulings DO NOT change the status of North Carolina’s Constitutional Marriage Amendment, which was approved by 61 percent of North Carolina voters last year, and reads: “Marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this State.”
That is true today, but we do not expect opponents of traditional marriage to stay silent for long. We anticipate North Carolina’s Constitutional Marriage Amendment will be challenged in court.
We at CWA of North Carolina know this is just the beginning of the long battle for our state’s rights, religious liberty, parental rights, and the protection of marriage.
But rest assured, CWA of North Carolina will stand on the Truth of God’s Word. We will continue to lead in the fight for the sanctity of marriage in North Carolina. It will require prayer, time, energy and resources. Will you donate today to help CWA of North Carolina stay on the front lines at this critical crossroads for America?
For marriage!
