CWA Joins Members of Congress to Defend National Day of Prayer

Washington, D.C. – Concerned Women for America (CWA) is proud to join Members of Congress from both sides of the aisle in a press conference to defend the National Day of Prayer, which has recently come under attack.

In a recent ruling, a federal judge declared the National Day of Prayer unconstitutional, claiming that it violates the First Amendment prohibition against laws respecting an establishment of religion.

CWA will be joining groups such as Focus on the Family Action and Family Research Council, as well as Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minnesota), Rep. Mike Pence (R-Indiana), and Rep. J. Randy Forbes (R-Virginia).

Penny Nance, CEO of Concerned Women for America, said, “The Constitution’s protections for religion in America were put there to protect the church from the government, and not the other way around. Our nation has been declaring days of prayer from its very founding. The court’s attack on our religious liberty must not stand. Religious liberty is our First Freedom and we will not sit down or shut up when a rogue judge loses his way.”

The press conference will be held on Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. in the Cannon House Office Building.
