HB300, the Fairness Act, sponsored by Rep. Malcom Kenyatta (D-District 181), would amend the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act to include sexual orientation and gender identity protections in housing, education, and public accommodations.
We need your voice to stop this very dangerous bill! The Pennsylvania House Judiciary Committee is scheduled to vote on HB300 on Tuesday, March 10, making it critical for each of us to speak out before this decision is made.
Despite its name, the Fairness Act is not fair. This legislation would enshrine into state law a new protected class of sex based on “gender identity” that claims no objective standard, medical diagnosis, or permanent intent. Under this framework, gender identity is nothing more than a person’s perception of self that can be changed at any time and for any reason.
Here are a just few reasons Concerned Women of America (CWA) of Pennsylvania opposes HB300:
- Allows biological males in women’s sports
- Allows boys in girls’ bathrooms
- Allows boys in girls’ locker rooms
- Allows biological males in women’s shelters
- Disciplines doctors for their religious, moral, or professional objections to sex reassignment surgery
- It could create new legal avenues to target Christian business owners—such as florists, bakers, and photographers—who seek to operate according to their sincerely held beliefs about marriage and sexuality, As you know, across the country we have seen individuals of faith face legal challenges for living out their convictions, including cases like Jack Phillips of Masterpiece Cakeshop. If HB 300 passes, similar conflicts could increase here in Pennsylvania.
