Does Colorado have a revenue problem or a spending problem?
Colorado is facing a $783 million budget shortfall this year. In response, Gov. Polis called a Special Session of the legislature last week. Unfortunately, his plan prioritizes politics over the people of Colorado.
While Gov. Polis’ proposals include a sundry of left-wing misuse of taxpayer dollars, CWA of Colorado urged lawmakers to take a different approach. On your behalf, I submitted a letter from CWA of Colorado to the House Health and Human Services Committee members in support of HB25-1015, Preserve Medicaid Health-Care Services, introduced by Rep. Brandi Bradley (R – District 39) and Rep. Scott Bottoms (R – District 15). This bill would have prohibited taxpayer reimbursement to facilities that perform or refer for abortion or gender-affirming services, thus ensuring Medicaid dollars truly serve Colorado citizens in need. Sadly, this bill was defeated along party lines.
Funding programs that harm Colorado’s preborn and minor children to cover a budget shortfall is not only counterintuitive, but it is also unrighteous.
Pray with Me:
Father, we lift up this Special Session before You and ask that You grant Colorado legislators wisdom and boldness to do what is right. May justice guide every decision in how taxpayer dollars are spent. Let “truth spring forth out of the earth, and righteousness look down from heaven” over Colorado. We pray that our legislators will rule with integrity and righteousness as they address this budget shortfall. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen
