By January 26, 2025South Dakota

Three important bills will be voted on Monday. Your prayers and action are needed.

Senate Bill

Ten Commandments Display

SB 51 will require South Dakota schools to post the Ten Commandments along with other historical documents. In addition, it must include the historical context of the Ten Commandments in our nation’s history. Others documents regarding our history may be displayed.

AG Marty Jackley issued a press release stating his support. “South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley joins 17 other Attorneys General in supporting the state of Louisiana law that requires all K-12 schools and state-funded universities to display the Ten Commandments in classrooms.”

SB51 passed in the Senate Education committee 4-3 and will be voted on in the Senate Monday afternoon, January 27.

House Bills

Land Rights Bill

HB1052 is a good bill that will “prohibit the exercise of eminent domain for a pipeline that carries carbon oxide.” This will not stop landowners from signing easements with the pipeline company if they wish. However, the pipeline company will not be able to serve eminent domain papers to landowners who do not want this hazardous pipeline on or near their land, home, school, business, etc.

Our South Dakota Constitution assures our rights to “acquiring and protecting property”:

HB1052 passed in the House State Affairs Committee Friday with a vote of 10-3 and will be voted on in the House Monday afternoon, January 27.

ACTION: Contact your two state representatives and ask them to vote YES on HB1052, the land rights bill. If you don’t know who your representatives are, click here. Or you may phone the House lobby and leave a message for your representatives. 605 773-3851

Baby Gabriel Bill

HB1044authorize the use of a newborn safety device for the voluntary surrender of a newborn.” HB1044 is an update to our former Baby Moses law. Titled the Baby Gabriel Law, HB1044 is in response to the baby found in a recycling container in Sioux Falls last fall. While citizens mourned, he was named and given a proper burial.

HB1044 will allow a newborn baby to be voluntarily and anonymously surrendered at a hospital, firehall, etc.  A read of the bill is interesting.

HB1044 passed unanimously in the House Health and Human Services Committee and will be voted on in the House, Monday afternoon, January 27.

ACTION: Contact your two state representatives and ask them to vote YES on HB1044, the Baby Gabriel bill. If you don’t know who your representatives are, click here. Or you may phone the House lobby and leave a message for your representatives. 605 773-3851

PRAYER: Father, we praise You that You are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us. (Ephesians 3:20) We ask your grace and mercy on our legislature and all those in authority. Grant them wisdom as they make crucial decisions for our state and Your people. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
