Psalm 146: 1-3 “Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord, O my soul. I will praise the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men, who cannot save.”
Have you ever been swindled? It has happened to me more often than I care to admit! In fact I was deceived just a few years ago when I bought a car for $600 cash. This perfect little red run-around car had no problems, until I got it home and realized it did not move in reverse! When my family heard who I was considering buying the car from, I was warned that I was making a mistake but I didn’t listen as I was sure someone I knew would not sell something so deceitfully.
Now I see, it was my mistake not to listen to sound advice. In the world today, how are we to discern the voice of good, sound advice from the voice of a swindler? Hosea 10:12 says, “Sow for yourselves righteousness, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is time to seek the Lord, until he comes and showers righteousness on you.”
Sowing, reaping and plowing are labors that demand effort, time and endurance. These labors are not accomplished in a day’s time; rather the farmer diligently works the ground day after day, season after season looking with hope for the harvest to come, the fruit of his labor.
When we sow righteousness we stand for justice and defend those that are oppressed. That means as Christians we speak up against the actions of those who ignore the cry of our unborn babies. We are to be a voice that calls our leaders to protect women and babies from the violence of 4,000 abortions per day. As we stand up against this atrocity, we take time to seek the Lord, pray, read about our candidates and vote for leaders that understand righteousness. Let us not be deceived by those leaders whose names we know, but who swindle us by their lack of commitment to end abortion.
The harvest is an abortion free state. We will not put our trust in princes or in mortal men who cannot save for Scripture tells us, “Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God, the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them. The Lord, who remains faithful forever, He upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. The Lord reigns forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations. Praise the Lord.” Psalm 146: 5-7, 10
