Sixteen men, women and teenagers gathered at the Georgia State Capitol on June 22, 2012, to participate in CWA of Georgia’s inaugural Legislative Learning Day and Prayer Walk. Among those attending were CWA of Georgia’s Prayer/Action Chapter Leaders Sonya Black of Savannah and Joy Deal of Dallas. It was an enjoyable morning meeting new people, learning together, and praying for our state leaders and legislators.

Led by State Director Tanya Ditty, the day began with an overview of the legislative process. Participants learned first-hand what it takes to get a bill passed into law by discussing each step in the bill process. In addition, attendees learned how to effectively lobby their legislators, whether in person, by phone, and on the computer.

Armed with knowledge of how a bill becomes law, Tanya led the group on an educational walking tour of the Coverdell Legislative Office Building and all four floors of the State Capitol. Tanya connected each stop in the Capitol back to the steps of the legislative process. Stops on the tour included the offices of Gov. Nathan Deal and Secretary of State Brian Kemp, the House chambers, the Senate gallery and various other legislative offices. Most importantly, the walking tour included prayer. The group prayed for Georgia’s state leaders, legislators, attorney general, state school superintendent and the many people who work in the legislative and executive offices.

CWA of Georgia says “thank you” to each person who took time out of their week to attend this event. Several drove over four hours to come to the capitol to learn about the legislative process.

We look forward to hosting our next Legislative Learning Day and Prayer Walk later this year. Stay tuned for more information.
