WASHINGTON, D.C. – While Americans are still reeling from the atrocities committed by Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell, we are shaken to the core to learn that three women and one of their young daughters were held captive, tortured, and raped.
We applaud the lead prosecutor, Timothy McGinty, for his statement that he wants to charge Ariel Castro to the fullest extent of the law “for each and every act of sexual violence, rape … each day of kidnapping, every felonious assault (and) all his attempted murders and each act of aggravated murder he committed by terminating pregnancies that the offender perpetuated against the hostages during this decade long ordeal.”
Concerned Women for America CEO and President, in the brief statement below, says this should set a nationwide precedent for men who abuse women:
“Ohio has it 100 percent right. CWA applauds Attorney General Mike DeWine, Cuyahoga County prosecutors, and Ohio Governor John Kasich for seeking to charge Castro to the fullest extent of the law. Every state needs to pass laws that charge individuals with murder if they intentionally force a miscarriage. We are pleased that Ohio is among the 36 states that allow individuals who kill a baby in utero to be charged with murder.
“Our prayers go out to these women and their families at this difficult time. While working on the Sexual Assault Forensic Evidence Registry Act, we learned that survivors of rape need justice and closure for the crime committed against them. Ohio is sending a strong message that it will seek justice for these women. It is crucial that they prosecute to the fullest extent of the law, but it is important to ensure that our law enforcement agencies have the tools to identify and prosecute sexual assault cases.”
