Sen. Heath Cloud (R-District 28) has introduced SB310, which recently passed the Senate with a vote of 31-7. The bill is now awaiting consideration in the House Education Committee.
SB310 would require student health centers at public schools (K-12) and public colleges and universities to display clearly visible signs about available pregnancy resources. These signs would be placed in waiting areas, exam rooms, and other appropriate locations and must be easy to read with a large font. The Louisiana Department of Health (or a designated nonprofit) would design and provide the signs. The bill specifies no required state spending; signage may be funded through private or nonprofit support.
This legislation helps ensure that individuals who are facing a difficult situation have the resources they need. Legislators carry a great responsibility, and their influence is far-reaching.
