Legislative Session Wrap Up Information

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;
the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.”
-Numbers 6:24-26

On June 12, the Louisiana legislative session ended. Our elected officials worked hard to make Louisiana a better place to live and raise a family.

Thank you to all of you who prayed for and contacted specific legislators concerning the passage of several good bills. Your efforts made a significant impact on getting these critical bills to Gov. Landry’s desk for his signature.

  • The Justice for Victims of Abortion Drug Dealers Act, HB575, passed! This new law makes it crystal clear that those involved in providing abortion pills can be held civilly liable for the damage they cause. HB 575 empowers women with the ability to file a lawsuit against the abortion industry for up to five years after an abortion! Many thanks to Rep. Lauren Ventrella (R-District 65), and nineteen co-authors, for authoring this bill.
  • The Stop Coerced Abortion Act, HB425, passed! This new law makes it illegal to use tactics often employed by abusers, like control or intimidation, to force a woman to undergo an abortion against her will. Many thanks to Rep. Josh Carlson (R-District 43) for authoring this bill.
  • App Store Accountability Act, HB570, passed! This new law requires parental consent for children to download applications on their mobile devices. Many thanks to Rep. Kim Carver (R-District 89), and 49 co-authors, for authoring this bill.

Thank you to all our Encourage-A-Legislator (EAL) participants who faithfully prayed for our leaders and sent postcards with words of encouragement throughout the legislative session. We know that prayer changes hearts and minds, and it can even move mountains. We have received multiple expressions of thanks from the legislators.
