WASHINGTON, D.C.– Kermit Gosnell, the abortion doctor in the “House of Horrors” case garnering national attention has been found guilty of several charge, including murder. Concerned Women for America CEO and President Penny Nance responds:
“Concerned Women for America (CWA) applauds today’s decision. CWA has worked hard to draw attention to the Kermit Gosnell “House of Horrors” trial and rejoices in the decision to bring this monster to justice. No sentence can bring back the lives lost at the hands of Kermit Gosnell and his employees, but this decision acknowledges the role he played and how this horror could have been prevented. It is unconscionable that some tattoo parlors, nail salons, and veterinary clinics have greater oversight and sanitary standards than today’s abortion clinics, where women are being maimed and murdered, instead of being protected.
“Many in Washington have joined the national discussion and sought action to stop these horrific acts. The House Judiciary Committee sent a letter to all 50 state attorneys general to find out if state and local governments are being thwarted in their efforts to protect the civil rights of newborns and their mothers. The House Energy and Commerce Committee also sent a letter to all 50 state departments of health, examining the oversight conducted of health clinics and facilities that perform abortions to determine whether state departments of health are aware of, or even conducting, monitoring and the extent to which other atrocities exist.
“Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) rose to heroic bravery to garner a sense of the Senate on similar efforts and was thwarted by Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Connecticut). We cannot solve this problem and protect women if a common ideology of right and wrong isn’t acknowledged. Killing innocent human lives is wrong, and monsters like Kermit Gosnell have taken advantage of women for long enough.
“The evidence is clear that Gosnell’s horror show only gives a peek into what is actually happening in these kinds of clinics. The evidence given by former employees, coupled with the investigative reports from Live Action, must shake Americans and Washington out of their collective apathy. It is a sickening thought that if these babies were killed with guns instead of scissors it would be national news. Instead, the American public has been brainwashed and coddled into believing that abortions in this country are safe simply because they are legal. That is not the case, and this trial has shown how often poor minorities are targeted for these practices.
“We still have huge obstacles to overcome. CWA has publically urged Congress and states to require physicians to have admitting privileges at a hospital that is in close proximity to the clinic in which he or she is working and require notifying the patient of a hospital where they can receive post-abortion follow-up care. We must overcome our apathy. The Gallup poll released Friday morning found that just 25 percent of those surveyed said they were following the case of Kermit Gosnell “very” or “somewhat” closely. Fifty-four percent of people said they weren’t following the case at all.
“Americans have known for a long time that one life ends at each abortion appointment, but they must now face the reality that mothers are being maimed and murdered at these so-called “women’s health clinics.” This should rightly gain the indignation of our nation and put to rest once and for all the idea that abortion is safe because it is legal.”
