Historic Vote on Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act Passes the House!
Penny Nance, CWALAC’s CEO and President, said:
It is absurd that what happened in Gosnell’s House of Horrors – babies being born alive and then brutally having their spinal cords severed – is legally allowed to happen each and every day to babies of the same gestational age in the womb. These babies are pulled apart limb by limb. We need to make sure that as the leader of the free world our abortion policies are not aligning with countries like China and North Korea.
The Pain-Capable Unborn Children Protection Act ensures that babies who are at five months gestation — who suck their thumbs, react to their mothers’ voices, and feel and recoil from excruciating pain — will no longer be killed in the womb. This crucial piece of legislation passed today by the U.S. House is the first step in our efforts to stop this abomination.
We commend House Leadership for their steadfast commitment to protecting the unborn, and we call on Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to quickly bring this bill up for a vote in the Senate.
Polling from Quinnipiac shows that 62 percent of Americans support legislation protecting unborn babies beginning at 20 weeks.
Currently, the United States is one out of only seven countries that allows abortion past 20 weeks (or five months, the point at which most couples are excitedly finding out the sex of their child). The United States House of Representatives has an opportunity to pass a bill that would protect the health of women and their unborn child when it comes to late-term abortion.
Earlier this year, the House hit an unexpected obstacle in passing this bill. Since then, Concerned Women for American Legislative Action Committee and pro-life Members of Congress have been working hard to address these concerns, and we now have a final product that is stronger than the bill Congress was supposed to consider.
It is critical that the U.S. passes this legislation. The United States is one of only seven nations to allow elective abortions after 20 weeks gestation.
Furthermore, the majority of Americans overwhelmingly agree that abortions at five months gestation when the baby feels pain should be restricted. According to The Polling Company’s nationwide poll in March 2013, 64 percent of Americans believe abortions should not be allowed if the baby can feel pain. Recent polls by Quinnipiac, National Journal, Huffington Post, NBC News/Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post/ABC News all revealed: A majority of Americans support limiting abortion after 20 weeks. Sixty percent of women think abortion after 20 weeks should be illegal.
Please call your representative and urge him/her to vote in favor of the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. Members of Congress are hearing from the pro-abortion activists; they need to hear from us as well! To find your representative, please visit www.house.gov.
We need to light a fire under our representatives and let them know how strongly we feel about this issue. Concerned Women for American Legislative Action Committee is taking a stand for the unborn.

The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (H.R. 36) protects unborn children by prohibiting abortion after 20 weeks fetal age, except in cases of rape, incest or when the life of the mother is threatened, because these unborn children are capable of feeling pain.

Why the Pro-Life Movement Should Unite Behind the Pain-Capable 20-Week Abortion BanTwo years ago, Americans were horrified by the actions of murderer Kermit Gosnell. We now know that at 20-weeks fetus’ can feel pain, acknowledge their mother’s voice, hiccup and grow hair. However, Brit Hume said if science could tell us that the unborn can feel pain even from the beginning that the support behind abortion would crumble.
