“And He answered and said to them, ‘Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning “made them male and female,” and said, “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh”? So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.’” (Matthew 19:4-6)
As a result of the United States Supreme Court’s overreach in Obergefell v. Hodges (576 U.S., 2015), two bills—HB 1800 and SB 434—have been introduced in Pennsylvania that seek to repeal Section 1704 of Title 23 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes. This section currently defines marriage exclusively as a union between one man and one woman.
If passed, these bills would dismantle the current legal definition of marriage and open the door to redefining marriage in Pennsylvania. They would also extend specific legal protections based on an individual’s identity or sexual conduct.
HB 1800 and SB 434 represent a pivotal moment in our state’s legislative history. Repealing Section 1704 could redefine marriage to include same-sex unions or other arrangements not currently recognized under state law. Additionally, these proposals raise serious questions about granting special protections or rights based on gender identity, sexual orientation, or particular sexual behaviors.
Concerned Women for America of Pennsylvania strongly opposes this proposed change. It is critical that you make your voice heard by contacting your elected representatives. A vote is expected as soon as mid-November.
Action:
- Click here to contact your state representative and urge them to retain the traditional definition of marriage and oppose extending special protections based on gender identity or sexual activity. Be sure to let them know you are being updated by CWA of Pennsylvania.
- Please pass this email along to others and encourage them to pray and act immediately as well.
Pray:
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the wonderful gift of marriage. Help us to value and honor Your design and purpose for marriage within Pennsylvania. We pray that our state leaders will not change the laws that will ultimately redefine Your plan for marriage. Give them wisdom to make Biblical choices, especially regarding the holy institution of marriage. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Thank you in advance for your diligent prayers and actions. Together, we are making a difference.
