THOUGHTS FROM THE STATE DIRECTOR

"And justice is turned back, and righteousness stands far away; for truth has stumbled in the street, and uprightness cannot enter." Isaiah 59:14 NASB

In ancient Israel, God's chosen people cried out for justice, but it eluded them because they were unrighteous. Righteousness and justice are Siamese twins; synergistic and dependent upon their commonly shared organs or limbs. In this case, it is truth that is the life-sustaining force. When a nation strays from the everlasting truth in the Word of God, there will be no justice.

Truth stumbles in America
Truth is stumbling in the streets of America; it is very difficult to find truth in carefully parsed words released by our leaders or to uncover the "hidden things" buried in many words that have been "spun" to deceive. Just like Israel we are finding ourselves crying out for the justice we seek, but not able to grasp it.

Some don't care
What is worse is the discovery that many people don't care whether there is justice or not. They are simply seeking to satisfy themselves without a thought for how their actions affect others. Their self-interests blind them to the fact that the death of justice and truth will devour them in the end. They are pleased when they "win" oblivious to the inevitable consequences; there is "no peace for the wicked." (Isaiah 57:21)

Short-term goals justify the means
When a nation seeks to satisfy short-term goals at the expense of others, it ceases to be just and loses its opportunity for peace. When a state shrugs its shoulders at injustice and fraud, it will find itself struggling more and more to find that illusive tranquility so sought after by all its citizens.

A stain
The abortion industry is a stain on the soil of Kansas; truth has indeed stumbled on the streets of Kansas towns, leaving women and unborn infants behind in the wreckage. The truth is that abortion in Kansas is not the "service" it claims it is. In fact, in spite of the recent ruling in the Tiller trial, it is obvious that the industry will do anything it can to get around the laws designed to protect women and their almost-born children. It is not enough for Kansas to be the "third- trimester abortion capitol of the world;" now the world understands that Kansas' abortionists can operate with impunity as long as they continue to help elect sympathetic leaders in the state.

The second chance
In the past, the Board of Healing Arts, the medical profession's own watchdog, looked the other way when egregious violations in abortion facilities were brought to their attention citing "lack of funding for investigators" and displaying indifference. When the legislature examined their activities, they became more concerned with the ultimate dismissal of their executive director and lawyer. This same executive director became the designated scapegoat in the Tiller trial with Tiller claiming he was told to make an arrangement with another abortion provider as his "second opinion." The "Larry Buening made me do it" defense will probably not work at the final judgment, but it apparently was enough to convince a jury that Tiller was not culpable in the charges against him. Truth stumbled in the streets of Wichita that day. Now we discover that this same board, sans its last executive director will review the case and recommend whether or not abortionist Tiller will lose his medical license. Time will tell whether truth is stumbling in the Board of Healing Art's meeting room.

He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life
We can be assured that the One who said He is the Way, the Truth and the Life will have the final say in these matters of cultural shifts (He sees it as rebellion). He sees the heart, the motive and the intent and is perfectly just because He is perfectly true and righteous. As Easter approaches, we can be ever so thankful that He suffered and gave His life on the cross that we might be seen as righteous and pure ... only by His blood that was shed for us. May those who have been so deceived by the lies, including those perpetrating the lies, come to know Him that they too might be saved.

In Him,
Judy Smith
