UNDER THE DOME National Legislation
HHS Regulations Protecting Rights of
Conscience
The Health and Human Services Department has
published draft regulations to protect the rights of
conscience for those in the medical profession.
Wendy Wright, president of Concerned Women for
America, sent a letter of thanks and additional
comments on the proposed regulations. A copy of Wendy's letter has been posted on
CWA's web site.
Pre-natally and Post-natally Diagnosed
Conditions Awareness Act
CWA lobbyists and many CWA leaders from across
the country lobbied Senators in the last month urging
them to pass S.1810, the Pre-natally and Post-natally
Diagnosed Conditions Awareness Act. We praise
God that it passed both the Senate and the House!
This legislation requires that families who receive a
diagnosis of Down syndrome or any other condition,
pre-natally or up until a year after birth, be given up-to-
date information about the nature of the condition and
connection with support services and networks that
could offer assistance.
Currently, 90 percent of children pre-natally diagnosed
with Down syndrome are aborted. That percentage is
similar for children pre-natally diagnosed with other
conditions such as spina bifida, cystic fibrosis and
dwarfism.
Also, a reminder: CWA of New York developed a
brochure listing resources for people who have, or
might be expecting, a child with Down Syndrome. It
would be a wonderful brochure to take to your Doctor
so that he/she can in turn hand it to patients. You can
download the brochure here.
