Building Strong Families Helps Stem the Tide The Cultural "Floodwaters" Threaten; CWA of Kansas is Helping to Build a Defense
CWA of Kansas worked with other family groups to pass a constitutional amendment to protect marriage. Because of the overwhelming vote - 70 percent - marriage and its benefits are reserved for one man and one woman! Judy Smith, state director, participated in a press conference to kick off the campaign.
CWA of Kansas worked to ensure that women and children will be protected against trafficking in persons for sex and labor. Dr. Janice Crouse, Senior Fellow of the Beverly LaHaye Institute, joined other experts testifying before the House Corrections and Juvenile Justice Committee. Both chambers concurred and the governor signed the bill.
CWA of Kansas worked with other pro-life groups to pass the Abortion Clinic Licensing bill. The bill passed both chambers with a veto proof majority, but when the governor vetoed it, some legislators flip-flopped, and the override attempt failed. This bill would have place abortion providers under the Kansas Department of Health and Education. The Board of Healing Arts, which currently overseas abortion providers, allowed an abortion clinic in Kansas City with egregious health violations to operate for 18 months.
CWA of Kansas worked with Stand Up for Kansas, a not-for-profit group that opposes the expansion of gambling. The state legislature did NOT expand gambling during this session.
CWA of Kansas provided information to our e-mail lists about the current debate over teaching the controversy of origins of life in the states science standards. We provided testimony that upheld the academic freedom of both teachers and students.
