THOUGHTS

Weapons of mass destruction
“Weapons of mass destruction” is a term that we hear a lot about in the media these days. Whether or not Iraq has them; what we should do about them; (I find it amusing to find many of them asking that question after they have expressed doubt that there are any) and how to protect ourselves in case there are any. Duct tape, water, batteries and first aid kits are the order of the day. Endless discussions about whether or not to go to war, whether we should go it alone, and how the war should be conducted have been endless fodder for thought these days.

Children and families destroyed
It is ironic that we send teams of scientists to Iraq to look for lethal weapons and wait with bated breath for their appraisal of the situation, yet we ignore the “weapons of mass destruction” here right under our noses. I am not talking about conventional weapons of war; I am talking about the weapons the enemy uses against our children and against families. One of the most effective weapons against our kids is pornography; pornography is used almost exclusively by pedophiles to de-sensitize children to the sexual behaviors they seek. They also use pornography to satisfy their own lustful desires, which in turn leads to more acting out; this time perhaps with a real child. The “missile of lust” is threatening our children; even infants and toddlers are no longer safe. There is no need for a “smoking gun”; the destroyed lives of our kids are proof enough.

Women are subjected
Pornography also hurts women by convincing susceptible men that women are mere objects; something to exploit for pleasure. Women are lured into the porn business by the promise of big bucks but the promise is like a mist driven before a storm. When a woman finds herself literally enslaved by unscrupulous men and women with little hope of getting out she finds the promise becomes enslavement with death to free will and consent. Sexual trafficking in women is on the rise worldwide; girls and women are lured by those who tell them they will make lots of money yet find themselves in a yoke of bondage that often ends in death and disease and mistreatment. Yet, the feminists tell us that prostitution should be made legal . . . that it is the law against this behavior that enslaves women.

Men are enslaved
Pornography addicts men and enslaves them too . . . it causes them to look at more and more degrading material because like most addictions tolerance is built up and it takes more and more to excite them. Meanwhile, marriages are destroyed and children are left without a role model in their father.

No “bomb shelters”
There is no safe place from the artillery that pornography spews across the countryside. Even the public library is no longer a safe haven. Now parents have to worry that their children will be able to access the most lurid and puerile material right in sight of library patrons. Parents also have to worry about their children being the convenient prey of a predator that is accessing pornography on a library computer. Women can no longer walk safely from the library to their car because a man has accessed porn and felt the urge to act upon his desires.

Trojan horses
Television is the Trojan horse of modern times. Soft porn and even some hard-core porn are now coming right into our living rooms. The slippery slope of decadence has been so subtle over the years that we don’t even notice it just as the citizens of that ancient city did not notice the horse in their midst. We wink at the off-color jokes and sexual innuendoes and we laugh, not realizing that the trivialization of these things make it more acceptable the next time we see it. Our kids see fornication, alcohol and drug abuse, infidelity, murder and mayhem on the screen in the middle of their living room every day. Their minds are taking it all in and their innocence and compassion is being destroyed in the process. Activities and behaviors that would have been abhorrent to our parents are commonplace now. Fashion shows with practically nude models modeling underwear are ho-hum events and reality shows turn us into voyeurs. And our children watch and learn from us.

Chemical warfare
Greed, pride, apathy and lust are like the chemical mists or bacteria so feared by us all. Odorless, colorless, insidious, they kill by stealth. We don’t think that anything will happen to us because we have always been so blessed. We have forgotten that everything we have comes from God; He rains upon the just and the unjust; He gives and He takes away. We have taken our blessings for granted and have taken pride in ourselves and our accomplishments. We trust in science and military might and ourselves, but we are like the emperor with no clothes. Our slothful spirituality has weakened our immune system . . . we are susceptible to anything that comes along.

Look at the enemy within
Weapons of mass destruction are something to worry about because they are very real, but we need to look at the enemy within as well. The vices that have our nation and others in the western world in its grip are subtle and stealthy poisons that kill and destroy as effectively as those weapons from without. Pray that we would speak out against those things that are destroying our children and our families.
