“Women’s March” excludes Pro-life Women

By | News and Events, Press Releases, Sanctity of Life | No Comments

Washington, D.C. — A recent Guttmacher study shows abortion rates have reached a historic low. This comes at a time when pro-abortion women are planning a “women’s march” in Washington, D.C., specifically excluding pro-life women. Concerned Women for America CEO and President Penny Nance had this to say:

“I am so proud of the work the pro-life movement has done to reduce the number of abortions in America, which are now at a historic low since Roe v. Wade in 1973. We will continue to work tirelessly through public policy, cultural education, and compassionate ministries to help pregnant women and make abortion unnecessary and unwanted in America. The pro-life movement’s next task is taking down Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider. Although the national abortion rate has decreased since the peak rate in 1990, Planned Parenthood’s abortion rate continues to increase.

“This weekend, Planned Parenthood will join other pro-abortion groups at ‘The Women’s March.’ I want to make it clear, these groups do not speak for me, do not speak for all women, and do not represent the 5 out of 10 women who identify as pro-life.  In fact, the organizers are not even allowing pro-life women to participate in the march.  A march will never be a ‘women’s march’ when it tells half of American’s women ‘need not apply.’  This march had the potential to be a bipartisan and inclusive conversation on women in America — but is instead furthering an abortion-centric worldview that does nothing but harm women, children, and authentic women’s health.”

North Carolina Votes to Keep Commonsense Law HB2

By | Defense of Family, News and Events, Press Releases | No Comments

Washington, D.C. – Last night, North Carolina held its fifth special session of the General Assembly and adjourned the session without a repeal of House Bill 2 despite the rumors that the Republicans would vote for repeal.

Jill Coward, Concerned Women for America of North Carolina State Director had this to say:

“The citizens of North Carolina highly support Conservative traditional common sense bills over such controversial progressive ideas that are grown with one intent, to broker votes for the Democrat Party. Concerned Women for America of North Carolina is proud that once again, our legislators have stood strongly for privacy, protection and the dignity that all citizens deserve.

“Although we may be falsely labeled as hateful by some, Evangelical Christians actually care for those who are confused about their identity. We believe every human is affirmed by the Creator of the universe who loves each one. And for each person to find fulfillment, he must seek out God, understanding His word and purpose for their lives, always seeking to grow in Christ-likeness.”

Penny Nance, Concerned Women for America CEO and President added:

“This is a huge victory for North Carolina. HB2 is a commonsense law in favor of safety and privacy for women and children as they use public restrooms. CWA women of North Carolina fought tirelessly to see the bill signed into law and then continued that fight to see that it was not repealed. Our members across the country also applaud the legislators of North Carolina who chose to uphold this law as it sets a precedent for other states.”

New HHS Rule, a Desperate Move by the Obama Administration

By | News and Events, Press Releases, Sanctity of Life | No Comments

CWALAC_MediaStatementWashington, D.C. – The Obama Administration finalized a new pro-abortion rule from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that may prevent states from blocking Title X funding to abortion companies like Planned Parenthood.

Penny Nance, CEO and President of Concerned Women for America (CWA) had this to say:

It is almost embarrassing to watch a president who came into office with so much promise reduced to such petty political actions in the final hours of his presidency.  This is clearly a desperate move by the Obama Administration to appease its political ally, Planned Parenthood, after the overwhelming rejection they received from the American people in the last election.

We are confident that President-elect Trump, along with the next HHS secretary, Tom Price, will follow through on their promise to shift all taxpayer money from Planned Parenthood, an organization that is still under federal investigation because of their illegal selling of baby body parts, to the thousands of Federally Qualified Health Centers and Rural Health Centers available throughout the country.

Repealing this rule should be a top priority from the very second President-elect Trump takes his oath.

“Judge” Kasich Vetoes Heartbeat Bill

By | News and Events, Ohio, Press Releases, Sanctity of Life | No Comments

CWALAC_MediaStatementWashington, D.C. — Today, Gov. Kasich vetoed the “Heartbeat Bill” in Ohio, which would have outlawed abortion after an unborn baby’s heartbeat could be detected, usually around 6 weeks of pregnancy.  This would have been the most pro-life law in the nation.  The legislature delivered to his desk the Heartbeat bill along with a 20 week pain-capable abortion ban.  The Governor signed only the more moderate bill, vetoing the Heartbeat bill.

Penny Nance, CEO and President of Concerned Women for America (CWA) had this to say:

Gov. John Kasich’s decision to veto the heartbeat bill is extremely disappointing.  We understand there are different approaches to advancing the pro-life cause, but many Ohioans worked extremely hard to pass this legislation.

Gov. Kasich should have signed this bill and let the judicial process play out. He tries to justify his decision by suggesting the legislation would not pass judicial scrutiny. However, it is not his role to act as a member of the judicial branch. It is a shame his veto casts a dark cloud over the victory of the 20-week ban in Ohio.

NDAA Female Draft Provision Removed

By | Defense of Family, National Sovereignty, News and Events, Press Releases | No Comments

CWALAC_MediaStatementWashington, D.C. – As of Tuesday evening, the final conference report for the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) has dropped the provision forcing women to register for the draft. Instead, there will be a study reviewing the Selective Service. Penny Nance, CEO and President of Concerned Women for America, had this to say:

“Concerned Women for America recognized the significance and consequences of this drastic change in longstanding military policy. We immediately activated our grassroots and built a coalition to protect America’s daughters and ensure military readiness. I am grateful the NDAA conferees put America’s national security above the push for social engineering.

“In the age of political correctness, it is refreshing to see our nation’s leaders prioritize the interests of Americans, instead of caving to political pressure. Our members were instrumental in this victory. Their efforts to educate their senators and members of Congress highlighted the concerns of people across the country.

“I want to personally applaud Chairman Mac Thornberry (R-Texas) and Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Nebraska) for their leadership and moral courage to stand up to political correctness for the sake of our safety.

“I also want to thank the organizations and members who partnered with us in this significant victory.”

Price Appointed Secretary of HHS

By | News and Events, Press Releases, Sanctity of Life | No Comments

CWALAC_MediaStatementWashington, D.C. – In response to President-elect Donald Trump’s decision to appoint Rep. Tom Price (R-Georgia) as Secretary of Health and Human Services, Concerned Women for America CEO and President Penny Nance had this to say:

“We are pleased to hear of the naming of Congressman Tom Price from Georgia as the next Secretary of Health and Human Services. By naming Dr. Price to this position, President-elect Trump is demonstrating his resolve to repeal and replace ObamaCare and work to provide real answers to healthcare problems in American.

“Congressman Price has also been a consistent pro-life vote in Congress and will be able to impact policies related to respecting the conscience rights of doctors and healthcare workers as well as be a voice to defund Planned Parenthood through budget reconciliation and reallocating those funds to support comprehensive women’s healthcare as he did during his time in Congress.”

President-elect Trump on the Right Track with Sen. Sessions for Attorney General

By | National Sovereignty, News and Events, Press Releases | No Comments

CWALAC_MediaStatementWashington, D.C. – Penny Nance, CEO & President of Concerned Women for America (CWA), the nation’s largest public policy women’s organization, made the following comments on the news that President-elect Donald J. Trump has selected Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions (R) to serve as the 84th U.S. Attorney General:

Sen. Sessions has been a champion for the conservative principles that are the foundation of liberty and freedom.  Both his academic preparation and his stellar career as a U.S. Attorney and as a senator testify of an honest, competent man with a heart towards serving his fellow countrymen, even through much personal sacrifice.

We commend President-elect Trump for his selection of such a strong candidate.  The choice speaks very highly of his commitment to conservative principles.

The hundreds of thousands of members of Concerned Women for America (CWA) around the country will urge senators to move quickly in the new year to confirm Sen. Sessions as the next attorney general, so that we may start rectifying many of the asphyxiating policies pursued by Attorney General Eric Holder and Loretta Lynch.

The attacks on religious freedom and freedom of conscience in general, for example, must be at the top of the list.

Georgia “Gestapo” Combing Through Pastor’s Sermons

By | Georgia, News and Events, Religious Liberty | No Comments

CWALAC_MediaStatementAtlanta, GA – The State of Georgia has served a “Request for Production of Documents” to pastor and former Georgia District Health Director Dr. Eric Walsh, requiring him to surrender copies of his sermons under threat of law. First Liberty Institute is representing him against this violation of his First Amendment rights.

Penny Nance, CEO & President of Concerned Women for America (CWA), the largest public policy organization for women in the country, issued this warning:

The words of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., that, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,” still reverberate today – especially as we witness the “Gestapo-like” tactics of his native state. The state of Georgia’s blatant attack on religious freedom, as they discriminate against another pastor, Dr. Eric Walsh, is indeed a threat to every American, whatever our religious beliefs.

Can there be a clearer violation of our First Amendment right to religious freedom than for the state to monitor, examine, and retaliate against a person because of the sermons they share?

Let it be clear that the hundreds of thousands of members of Concerned Women for America are committed to stand squarely against this invidious discrimination and will do everything in our power to fight this injustice and intolerance with all the resources at our disposal.

CWA of Georgia State Director Tanya Ditty had this to say:

The time to speak up is now. The state’s actions in this case do not happen in a vacuum; they are, unfortunately, part of a troubling pattern that is very dangerous.

Georgia is better than this. Here is an issue that is beyond political affiliation. We all know that no one should be fired from their job over their religious beliefs or over something they said in their church.

Can anyone seriously defend the state’s intrusion into sermon writing?

The state’s actions in this case are reminiscent of the sort of “monitoring” the great German pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer experienced in his time. CWA of Georgia demands an immediate end to this type of anti-religious bigotry on the part of state authorities.

Mike Pence Shined in Debate, Showed that Social Issues Matter

By | News and Events, Press Releases, Sanctity of Life, Uncategorized | No Comments

CWALAC_MediaStatementConcerned Women for America CEO and President Penny Nance had this to say about last night’s Vice-Presidential Debate:

“Mike Pence shined as a Vice Presidential candidate who embodied what it means to show kindness and statesmanship as a faith-filled public servant,” said Penny Nance, President & CEO of Concerned Women for America, our nation’s largest Women’s Public Policy Organization. “Among the many conservative principles he articulated tonight, Mike Pence showed that social issues matter.  They illuminate the fundamental principle of human dignity that underscores every policy. Mike Pence articulately clarified that women who make the heartbreaking decision on abortion should not be punished, but rather we should work to build a culture of life – one in which human life in the womb is valued.  One in which the most vulnerable among us – including the aged, sick, and unborn – are honored.  One in which adoption policy turns what begins as a “crisis” pregnancy into an answer to prayer for infertile couples.”

“Tim Kaine fails to see abortion as a fundamental human rights issue violating the rights of the unborn child,” added Nance, who is also author of the new book Feisty and Feminine: A Rallying Cry for Conservative Women. “I find it odd that a man of faith who says he struggled with allowing the death penalty because of his faith, is also pro-abortion. He seems to have no qualms about losing the lives of the most vulnerable and unprotected in our society, the unborn. Women are strong and able, but the so-called ‘pro-choice’ community often takes advantage of women at a very vulnerable time in their life and only promote one option–abortion.”

“Tim Kaine has proven himself to be an even match for Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton supports completely unrestricted abortion at any time for any reason. As Pence stated, Hillary’s extremism on this fundamental issue led her to support partial-birth abortion, and now her campaign wants the repeal of the Hyde amendment, which has saved two million lives. Repealing the Hyde amendment would lead to tax-payer-funded abortions.  That kind of policy is out of touch with the majority of Americans who believe there should be restrictions on abortion, it denies women better choices than abortion, and it disregards the humanity of the unborn.”

Supreme Court Stays Ruling Forcing Schools to Allow Transgender Students to Use the Bathroom of Their Choice

By | Defense of Family, Education, Legal, News and Events, Press Releases, Virginia, Washington | No Comments

CWALAC_MediaStatementWashington, D.C. – The Supreme Court has put on hold a Fourth Circuit Court ruling requiring a Virginia school district to accommodate a transgender high school student’s request to use the boys’ bathroom. The justices split 5-3 on the issue to temporarily lift the obligation of the Gloucester County school system to allow one of their students to use the bathroom of her choice in accordance with Obama Administration guidance. CWA CEO and President Penny Nance has this to say:

“We commend the Supreme Court for voting to stay this case and encourage them to do the right thing when the time comes to rule on the merits.

“This case is a result of yet another Obama Administration overreach. To require schools to allow students into any bathroom of their choice is an overstep on legal boundaries by redefining the scope and reach of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and slapping the heavy hand of government on local schools.

“This would also impact the use of showers, locker rooms, school travel and more. This unwise and rash policy would favor the desires of a small group over young women with religious, cultural, and modesty concerns. The Court should not shove this unwise policy on the states.

“Schools all over this nation have rightly worked on a case-by-case basis to accommodate kids struggling with gender dysphoria. They should not be forced by big government to violate the privacy of other students and perhaps even create trauma for the very kids Obama pretends to protect. Local school districts, with the input of parents and health professionals, should be setting school policy on such a sensitive and controversial issue, not Washington.

“Finally, the left always uses children to accomplish its goals of social reengineering. The adults closest to these children should decide what’s best for all the children in the school. Safety and kindness should be the guiding principles, not threats from the bullies in Washington. We hope the Supreme Court agrees.”
