Nance to Hillary: Redirect Your Saudi Blood Money to Samaritan’s Purse

By | News and Events, Press Releases | No Comments

CWALAC_MediaStatementWashington, D.C. — Penny Nance, CEO and President of Concerned Women for America, said this today:

“In 1995, I had the honor of representing Concerned Women for America as a Non-Government Organization at the 4th U.N. World Conference on Women in Beijing, China. I listened to then First Lady of the United States, Hillary Rodham Clinton, passionately declare that ‘women’s rights are human rights, and human rights are women’s rights.’  As our Declaration of Independence corroborates, we are ‘endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights.’

“Mrs. Clinton, however, cannot possibly raise her fist to fight for the rights of women around the world with one hand while palming money from those same governments who exploit them with the other.  Concerned Women for America strongly believes in the inalienable rights of women, including the right to life, and calls on Mrs. Clinton to grant the $10-$25 million donated to the Clinton Foundation by the Saudi government to Samaritan’s Purse, which is on the ground around the world caring for women abused by Islamic terrorists and fascist regimes.”

CWALAC CEO and President Praises Congress’ Passage of the U.S.-Israel Strategic Partnership Act

By | News and Events, Press Releases, Support for Israel | No Comments

CWALAC_MediaStatementWASHINGTON, D.C. — Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee applauds Congress for final passage of the United States-Israel Strategic Partnership Act (S.2673). Senator Blunt (R-Missouri), one of the sponsors of S. 2673, states that the bill, “Authorizes an increase of $200 million in the value of U.S. weapons held in Israel, to a total of $1.8 billion. This stockpile is intended for use by U.S. forces in the event of a crisis, but it can also be used by Israel in the event of an emergency with Israel reimbursing the U.S. for any weapons used.” S. 2673 also seeks to broaden cooperation efforts regarding research and development, business, agriculture, water management, and academics.

Penny Nance, CEO and President of Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee, responded:

“CWALAC strongly supports Israel and efforts to strengthen the U.S.-Israeli relationship. Yesterday, the House of Representatives approved S. 2673, which the Senate unanimously passed in September, naming Israel a ‘major strategic partner’ of the United States.

“In doing this, Congress reaffirms the United States’ commitment to its long-standing relationship with Israel, including but not limited to defense, security assistance, diplomatic relations, energy development, and encourages increase cooperation in academics and business.

“With hostilities in the Middle East, the approval of this legislation sends a clear message that the United States Congress recognizes the importance of our relationship with Israel, the only democracy in a region full of oppression and violence.”

CWA Responds to Terror Attack in Jerusalem: Protecting Israel – Cornerstone for 2016 Presidential Nomination

By | News and Events, Press Releases, Support for Israel | No Comments

CWALAC_MediaStatementWashington, D.C. – Four innocent people, including three Americans with dual U.S.- Israeli citizenship, were murdered in Tuesday morning’s horrific terrorist attack in Jerusalem. The continued violence in Israel and constant turmoil in the Middle East makes a clear and comprehensive foreign policy agenda a must for any potential conservative presidential candidate. In a piece in today’s Christian Post, Penny Nance, Joel Rosenberg, and Ralph Reed explain why support for Israel should be a centerpiece of that foreign policy – and they outline six other crucial positions conservative voters will be looking for in the next president. One relevant excerpt reads:

ISRAEL AND RADICAL ISLAM – Does the candidate have a clear and coherent view of U.S. vital interests in the Middle East, including a demonstrated, consistent, long-standing support for Israel and a solid understanding of why Israel matters to the U.S.? Does the candidate have a clear understanding of the urgency of the threats posed by Iran, ISIS, and Radical Islam more broadly, and a serious approach towards dealing with such threats? Does he or she have proven wisdom and experience in dealing with the Middle East issues, or is the candidate too new to the foreign policy arena?”

Ten-Dollar Women and Out-of-Touch Liberals

By | Blog, News and Events, Sanctity of Life, Support for Israel | No Comments

WNMHashtagNews from the front line of the real war on women: ISIS is selling women for $10 to attract new recruits. But liberal Democrats would rather focus on $10 birth control readily available at Walmart than address the plight of these women that are being kidnapped, raped, and killed. Their continued “war on women” pandering has done nothing to advance true freedom of women, but rather worked to promote free “things.”

The question before us is, “Will Liberal Democrats still pretending to fight over $10 birth control in a made up “war on women” work in the midterms?” As things fall apart, the answer is a resounding “no.” This election season, we’ve seen liberal editorial boards like those in Colorado endorsing the Republican candidate (Corey Gardner) citing the liberal candidate’s (Mark Udall) refusal to get off the phony war on women rhetoric. The Colorado Springs Gazette said Mark Udall’s message was a waste of time and money:

“Few believe the pretense of a Republican war on women. The message was at first a waste of money and time. Now, it has backfired. On the average day for the past several months, Udall’s campaign has produced multiple statements with each mentioning his support of ‘birth control,’ ‘contraception’ and/or ‘abortion’ a dozen times or more. They did not come from 527s or other outside groups, but directly from the campaign. One might think Roe v. Wade hadn’t been decided 41 years ago. Or that women had no other pressing concerns.”

Unfortunately, so-called “women’s advocates” groups like the National Organization for Women and Planned Parenthood continue to discuss it, ignoring reality, and instead jumping on the bandwagon of poor messaging.

Both groups ignore the threat of ISIS for the health, wellness, and lives of women. But rest assured, multiple references to “attacks on reproductive rights” and the Republican “war on women” is given plenty of precious website capital. In fact, search NOW’s website and you will not find one single mention of ISIS. Add to that, if you search ISIS on Planned Parenthood’s website, you will kindly be redirected to a page that says “Did you mean abortion/birth control?” Because surely, when looking at what an “advocate for women” has to say about a terrorist group, you intended to find out about free birth control. At some point, and hopefully soon, it’ll be time to declare #WarNoMore.

CWA Takes Issue with Congressional Candidate’s Mean Characterizations

By | Defense of Family, News and Events, Press Releases | No Comments

apcullerWashington, D.C. — According to multiple news sources, South Carolina GOP candidate Anthony Culler wrote in a lengthy Facebook post that same-sex couples are “gremlins,” “bullies,” and a “pestilence that has descended on our society.” Culler, positioned in South Carolina’s 6th Congressional District race, posted that “Same-sex couples that seek to destroy our way of life and the institution of marriage are not cute and cuddly but rather (for those of you that are old enough to remember the movie), Gremlins that will only destroy our way of life.”

Concerned Women for America CEO and President Penny Nance said:

“Concerned Women for America (CWA) stands proudly in support of traditional marriage. However, neither side should engage in unkind, foolish verbal vomit. Anthony Culler has neither the temperament nor the judgment to thoughtfully represent the good people of the 6th district of South Carolina, and he certainly doesn’t represent the millions of Americans who support traditional marriage.  CWA calls on both sides of this debate to show respect and humility in sharing our strongly held beliefs.  As Americans, we should be able to debate this issue in a civil tone, making the case for our beliefs without being treated as ‘a pestilence,’ a ‘gremlin,’ or a ‘bigot.’  There are thoughtful people making high-level arguments for the importance of traditional marriage and against.  Name callers distract and marginalize both perspectives.”

Pro-life Groups Launch Multistate Summer of Life Campaign for 5-Month Abortion Limit

By | Press Releases, Sanctity of Life | No Comments

Washington, D.C. – Today, the national pro-life groups Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee, Family Research Council Action, Students for Life of America, and the Susan B. Anthony List announced the launch of a multistate “Summer of Life” campaign to bring awareness to the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. The legislation, which would limit abortions after 5 months, more than halfway through pregnancy, has wide spread support and was passed in the House over a year ago. The opportunity now falls to the Senate. That opportunity has been stonewalled by Majority Harry Reid (D-Nevada) and other Democrats who refuse to support the bipartisan measure. The rallies will call on Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colorado), Mark Udall (D-Colorado), Kay Hagan (D-North Carolina), Mark Pryor (D-Arizona), and Mary Landrieu (D-Louisiana) to listen to their constituents and support the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, S. 1670.

“It is time that the law reflects our society’s desire to protect the innocent,” said Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee CEO and President Penny Nance. “The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act was already passed in the House. The next step is allowing a fair debate in the deliberative body on the issue of late-term abortion in this country. While all abortions pose physical and psychological risks for the woman, medical risks from abortion increase markedly as pregnancy progresses, including the risk of death.”

The United States is one of just seven countries worldwide that permits abortion beyond 20 weeks, when an unborn baby feels pain, can acknowledge its mother’s voice, hiccup, and grow hair. The other countries include: China, North Korea, Vietnam, Singapore, Canada, and the Netherlands.

National polling by Quinnipiac, National Journal, Huffington Post,  NBC/Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post/ABC News all found that a plurality or majority of Americans support limiting abortion after 20 weeks and that women support the measure in higher proportions than men.

Supreme Court Order A Win for Religious Liberty

WASHINGTON, D.C. –– The United States Supreme Court entered an order today prohibiting the Obama Administration from enforcing its contraceptive mandate on the Little Sisters of the Poor pending appeal.

The Supreme Court order read in part: “If the employer applicants inform the Secretary of Health and Human Services in writing that they are non-profit organizations that hold themselves out as religious and have religious objections to providing coverage for contraceptive services, the respondents are enjoined from enforcing against the applicants the challenged provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and related regulations pending final disposition of the appeal by the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.”

Penny Nance, CEO and President of Concerned Women for America (CWA), the nation’s largest public policy women’s organization, hailed the action as a win for religious liberty:

The Justices have taken action to protect the Little Sisters of the Poor from the oppressive hand of government, and that is a significant victory for religious liberty.  Today they upheld the values of our founding, that we are a free people who should be free to exercise our religion free from government interference or coercion.

The Court also shows how ridiculously easy it would be for the Obama Administration to remedy the situation it has created.  Just simply allowing the Little Sisters of the Poor to be exempted as churches are would be enough.  But the Obama Administration has shown complete disregard to the concerns of the Little Sisters of the Poor and the plight of many other women, including the half-a-million members of Concerned Women for America, who have stood in support of their freedom.  There is simply no reason to fail to accommodate the sisters.

We call on the President, yet once again, to abandon this unwarranted attack on such a noble organization.
