Dear Friends,
As you know last week, the House of Representatives took a first historic step of passing a Continuing Resolution (CR) to cut $327 million in wasteful family planning programs, cut International Family Planning to Fiscal Year 2007 levels; reinstate the Mexico City Policy, which requires that foreign non-governmental entities receiving U.S. taxpayer money agree to neither perform, nor actively promote abortion; reinstate the D.C. Abortion Ban; and eliminate the $55 million going to the U.N. Population Fund which is complicit in the Chinese government’s barbaric program of forced and coercive abortion and sterilization. It also passed an amendment to defund Planned Parenthood through September 30.
That baby step may be undone if we do not act now. Already, Planned Parenthood has mobilized it members to fight our efforts. The Senate is likely to scrap the House CR and pass its own version that does not include our pro-life or pro-family initiatives.
Worse, the federal government is funded only through Friday, March 4. Congress is talking about passing a two-week stopgap measure that would keep the government funded, but this is likely not to include all of our pro-life provisions, nor would it include the Pence Amendment to defund Planned Parenthood. This stopgap measure would likely include $4 billion in cuts, probably to programs that the Democrats have already agreed to eliminate.
We need your help now. While your Representative and Senators are home, please visit their offices or attend townhall meetings. Please ask your Representative to stand firm with the House CR as a first step. Please urge them to remain firm in their efforts to defund Planned Parenthood. Please ask your Senators to support the House-passed CR and to defund Planned Parenthood. Click here to find your legislators and the locations of their offices in your state.
