Unsportsmanlike conduct is unbecoming for either gender. Unfortunately for her, daddys little girl in Alaska Lisa Murkowski didnt get to keep her Senate seat, a gift her father gave her in 2002, a seat Murkowski won two years later with less than 50% of the vote. Earlier this month, she lost in a stunning primary upset to Joe Miller, the Sarah-Palin backed conservative and shes not happy.
In fact, in defiance of every definition of sportsmanship and lady-like behavior, Murkowski refused to endorse her opponent and then announced she would run as a write-in candidate. If that isnt being a sore-loser, I dont know what is.
Murkowski lost her race fair and square and needs to grow up. She was an establishment candidate and the voters wanted a true conservative. Shes pro-choice, voted for TARP and approves of embryonic stem-cell research. Chalk it up to yet another victory for conservative Americans that she lost her official bid for the GOP nomination.
But her unsportsmanlike conduct has gone too far. Even Sarah Palin got in on the action when Murkowski announced she would be a write-in candidate by tweeting: My advice for Lisa is the same for anyone who sees a grizzly in the woods. DONT RUN.
Murkowski is just another example of the ruling class that thinks they own the office in which they serve. No; it belongs most decidedly to the People. Maybe it was that way in the past but thankfully Americans are waking up and taking charge.
In fact, Alaska is starting to look an awful lot like Florida. Charlie Crist, a supposed Republican, left the GOP once he saw he was about to lose his Senate primary race to the Tea Party supported candidate, Marco Rubio. Now he is in a three-way race for the seat. Yet another sore loser trying to save his public servant career.
Both parties have made mistakes and broken the publics trust by recklessly spending our tax dollars. Balancing the checkbook is now the popular thing to do and conservatives, both fiscal and social, are running over their establishment opponents.
Now, as Murkowski and her other sore loser buddies try desperately to cut ties with the establishment that they are so entrenched in, voters are having none of it. Both Crist and Murkowski are down in the polls. Murkowski especially has such a small chance of winning as a write-in candidate (no write-in candidate in Alaska has ever won an election) that one has to wonder why she is even running.
Is she so delusional that she somehow believes the voters of Alaska want her to be their senator even though they just fired her? Its almost sad to watch but not as sad as Murkowski spelling her own name wrong in her first television ad for her write-in candidacy.
I hope she comes to her senses soon and bows out gracefully, saving herself from further embarrassment. She could start by setting a good example to others who have followed similar paths of unsportsmanlike conduct Mike Castle in Delaware, Charlie Crist and Bill McCollum in Florida, Arlen Specter in Pennsylvania and Dede Scozzafava in New York.
Eighth graders running for class president have more political spirit than these sore losers. They need to grow up, get over themselves and help get this country back on its feet.
