Election Day 2012 Prayer

It was the custom of General Dwight Eisenhower the night before he ordered troops into battle to observe his men, salute them and then bow his head in prayer.

A recent article in the Wall Street Journal stated that General Eisenhower is famous for having penned a statement to be issued in anticipation of the failure of the Normandy invasion in which he took full responsibility for the decision he made. A week later, when the success of the invasion was apparent, Eisenhower saluted the Allied Expeditionary Forces, and said, “Your accomplishments … have exceeded my brightest hopes.” Victory became possible with the first foothold in northwestern Europe now established.

Gracious Father, we do not want to have to wait one week to declare VICTORY in this election. We have observed the candidates; we salute them for their efforts, and now we bow our heads in prayer asking that You give America the victory in the selection of Godly men and women with great moral authority and a passion to restore righteousness and prosperity to our land. May the people of this country vote intelligently after You bring to light the things they need to know, so they vote in line with Your plan, will and purpose. Encourage this country’s citizens weary of sin and degradation in our nation’s leaders to vote only for men and women of integrity and honesty who will take full responsibility for the decisions they make.

We claim the words of 2 Samuel 23:10, 12, “The Lord brought about a great victory that day …”  Father, the result of all that we have done through prayer, the work of our hands and the gifting of our hearts in support of candidates during this campaign, have exceeded our brightest hopes. “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ,” 1 Corinthians 15:57.
