CWA of Washington January 28 ACTION ALERT – Great Boldness of Speech

By | Washington | No Comments

Dear CWA of Washington Member,

“…since we have such hope we use great boldness of speech.” –Corinthians 3:12

CWA of Washington is watching several bills at this point of the 2016 session, but the most urgent ones about which you need to use “great boldness of speech” are SB 6443 and HB 2589.  Since this is a short legislative session (sixty days), things move very quickly, and since the legislature’s leaders hoped to focus primarily on budget issues, we need to work extra hard to educate others and act on our concerns.  There is a rising tide of citizen response to the Human Rights Commission’s interpretation of the 2006 law (HB 2661) about nondiscrimination.  CWA is part of that rising tide, and WE NEED YOU to join the movement!

LEGISLATION

SB 6443 – AN ACT Relating to the human rights commission’s rule-making authority; and adding a new section to chapter 49.60 RCW.

Click here to read the bill.

CWA of Washington supports this bill.

Five unelected Human Rights Commission (HRC) members issued a ruling on December 26, 2015, that requires all “places of public accommodation” to allow transgendered individuals access to opposite-sex bathrooms and locker rooms.  No one is allowed to question that access or to inquire as to an individual’s gender identity.  As stated in my previous alert, there are two main concerns:  public safety and right to privacy.  The HRC ruling fails to include adequate safeguards to prevent deviant persons from abusing the policy through voyeurism or worse.  Women are particularly concerned about their safety and privacy, given the potential danger (both physically and emotionally) to themselves and their daughters and granddaughters, since they are more often the targets of sexual assault and are certainly vulnerable in these settings. If the dignity of women is equally as important to you as the dignity of transgendered individuals, you need to express that to your three state legislators.

There is a public hearing scheduled for SB 6443 on Wednesday, January 27, at 1:30 p.m. in the Senate Committee on Commerce & Labor.  We need to fill up the hearing room and beyond with supporters of this bill.  Please bring a carload or vanload of others with you on Wednesday to show your support for the bill and also to thank Senator Ericksen and the other sponsors for having the courage to propose this bill that limits the Human Rights Commission’s rule-making authority on this issue.

HB 2589 – AN ACT Relating to allowing the use of gender-segregated facilities; and amending RCW 49.60.030.

Click here to read the bill.

CWA of Washington supports this bill.

This bill was introduced in the House and referred to the House Committee on Judiciary. Rep. Laurie Jinkins (D-Distrtict 27) refuses to allow a public hearing on this bill.  We need to persuade her that in our democratic Republic, we the people have a right to be heard on any issue in order for our elected legislators to properly represent our interests.  Please consider contacting Jinkins’ office to express your interest in this issue.  Call Rep. Laurie Jinkins’ office at 360-786-7930 or e-mail her at laurie.jinkins@leg.wa.gov. Request that she schedule a hearing on HB 2589.

With such a short session, the last day to read this bill in committee is February 5.  Without a hearing, this bill will not proceed to the House floor for a vote.

CWA of Washington implores you to TAKE ACTION and contact your three district legislators today to support these bills.  Click here to find out who they are as well as how to contact them.  You may call the Legislative Hotline at 1-800-562-6000 and leave a message for your senator and two representatives.  This only takes a couple minutes of your time and the operators will forward your message.  You may also call, fax or e-mail your concerns; this website makes it easy to send your comments:  app.leg.wa.gov/pbc/.

“We the people” need to storm Olympia by attending the public hearing on Wednesday or through e-mails and letters or telephone calls to both the Hotline (800-562-6000) and your own individual legislators’ offices, plus committee members.  If you cannot attend the hearing, please contact each member of the Senate Committee on Commerce and Labor.  Simply click here and go to “Commerce and Labor” then click on one name at a time to contact.

PRAYER

To encourage and motivate us all to share and apply Biblical principles in order to engage and influence the culture, I share some of my favorite Scriptures:

1 Corinthians 16:13 – “Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.  Let all that you do be done with love.”

Ephesians 6:10-11- “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.  Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”

Acts 5:29 – “Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said: ‘We ought to obey God rather than men.’”

James 5:17 – “Faith by itself, if not accompanied by action, is dead.”

Philippians 4:6-7 – “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

CWA of Washington January 8 ACTION ALERT – Stand

By | Washington | No Comments

ACTION ALERT JANUARY 8, 2016

Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.  Let all that you do be done with love.  1 Corinthians 16:13

Dear CWA of Washington Member,

I send you 2016 wishes for a God-centered new year.  This will no doubt be a significant year for religious liberty, our families and the freedoms our forefathers wrote into the U. S. Constitution and Bill of Rights.  Keeping our eyes on Jesus, we go into this year standing fast in the faith and asking you to stand alongside us.

URGENT ISSUE

Just a few days into this New Year, I must alert you to a very real danger to you and your family members.  On December 26, the Washington State Human Rights Commission implemented a new policy regarding our right to privacy and public safety.  That unelected commission ruled that any individual who believes he/she is of the opposite gender, i.e. transgendered, must be allowed to enter the bathroom, shower and locker room of their personal choice, based on their identity rather than their anatomy.  CWA of Washington has several serious concerns about this policy:

1) This ruling is an attack on the right to privacy for each one of us.  For your information, here is the preamble to the Constitution of the State of Washington and the constitution’s protection of our right to privacy:

We, the people of the State of Washington, grateful to
the Supreme Ruler of the Universe for our liberties, do ordain this constitution.
ARTICLE I
DECLARATION OF RIGHTS
SECTION 7 INVASION OF PRIVATE AFFAIRS OR HOME PROHIBITED.
No person shall be disturbed in his private affairs, or his home invaded, without authority of law.

At this point, the HRC ruling appears to be the law, so we concerned citizens must act to undo this ruling through our elected legislators.

2)  There is a serious threat to public safety from this ruling.  No one is allowed to even question an individual’s sexual identity, and if you do, you will be accused of discrimination and possibly subject to prosecution.

3)  There is very likely a serious conflict between this ruling and charges of voyeurism or indecent exposure.  This conflict will put the authorities on thin ice until this can be clarified by legislation or the courts.

4)  Common sense says that this ruling will encourage/enable individuals to take advantage of such opportunity to the detriment of the rest of us.

Unfortunately, the YMCA in Pierce County chose several months ago to get a jump start on this policy and opened their locker rooms to individuals who believe they are of the opposite gender than their biological reality.  A group of moms rose up to protest and the Y responded by pulling that policy, but then reinstated it, thus ignoring the serious concerns of families in their community in exchange for a tiny minority of individuals intent on pushing their self-centered agenda on the majority.  As a result, those brave moms educated and rallied other families to withdraw their YMCA membership.  As a result, the sound of children’s voices has been greatly diminished as fewer families use the Y’s facilities, preferring to protect their children from traumatic emotional and physical exposure to transgendered individuals.  We encourage you to be aware of this situation, educate others on it, and pray regarding your interaction with the YMCA.  As always, we encourage prayer, education, then respectful action on your part to protect you and your families.  Please pray for those individuals who would put their preferences above our rights to safety and privacy, that God would touch their lives in a very real way and bring them from darkness into His light.

As Rep. Graham Hunt says, “For the Human Rights Commission to unilaterally make a [Washington Administrative Code] change — they’re not an elected body … They’re making decisions that widely affect the public although they’re not elected and held accountable to the public in the same fashion.”  (“Transgenders in Washington state to use restrooms based on identity, not anatomy, commission rules”;Valerie RichardsonThe Washington Times – Thursday, December 31, 2015).

There have been success stories about this issue; here are two sources of information on this very unwise and dangerous ruling by the Human Rights Commission.  Todd Herman interviewed Rep. Graham Hunt on 12/28 about the bill he is preparing:

http://kiroradio.com/listen/9996629/#.  In addition, here is an article about this battle in Illinois:  http://dailysignal.com/print?post_id=232615.

We will need your early and continuing support on this issue.  It’s prayer, education and action time!   You can contact your district legislators through this website:

http://app.leg.wa.gov/DistrictFinder/ and you can call the Legislative Hotline to express your opinion:  1-800-562-6000.

UPCOMING EVENT

MARCH FOR LIFE:  Come join us on Tuesday, January 19, in Olympia to march in support of the sanctity of human life from birth until natural death. We will gather on the sidewalk near the Capitol Building, then march at noon to a rally on the Capitol stairs.  Watch for the CWA of Washington banner.

PRAYER

ENCOURAGE-A-LEGISLATOR!!!  Prayer is a gift from God that reminds us this is His world and that His power exceeds all else in this world.  The Encourage-A-Legislator program asks you to send a prepared message (approved by CWA) to a legislator each week of the Washington State Legislative Session (9 weeks for 2016), AND to pray for this person while they are in Olympia.  The session begins NEXT Monday, January 11, and we need thirty more people to cover only half of the Senate and half the House of Representatives with prayer and encouragement.  These people will be called to make tough choices and face opposition from entrenched interest groups.  Please prayerfully consider raising them up in prayer for this short time.  If you’re not able to write the postcards, please tell us, arrangements can be made so you can bow with us in prayer, while the legislature stands for our principles/rights/freedoms. Click here for the form.

Please contact the EAL coordinators by e-mail:  cwa-ealcoor@comcast.net or call the Washington State CWA Director’s office:  425-869-1923.  Thank you.

If you have not yet renewed your CWA of Washington membership, please use the attached form to do so and encourage others to join as well.  Thank you for standing fast in the faith with Concerned Women for America!

CWA of Washington November Action Alert – God’s Light

By | Washington | No Comments

Dear CWA of Washington Members,

“And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” John 1:5

I am so weary of hearing liberal/progressive/secularist/humanist spokesmen moan and warn about the necessity of banning any expression of our historically traditional Christian faith, values, holidays, etc. as well as restricting our other First Amendment and other inalienable rights!  Those spokesmen ignore all the founding documents, journals, congressional minutes, etc., then re-invent our “rights” to fit their vision of a secular, humanist, “progressive” utopia where government employees supposedly understand and  know better how we should live, what we should believe, etc.  They advocate their choices, but they deny our choice not to participate in their ungodly behaviors although they totally offend us and conflict with our pro-life worldview.  This comes from the very group that has created the cultural and moral freefall that our nation and our families are suffering from, but they continue in their campaign to obliterate our Judeo-Christian foundation and clearly Biblical traditional worldview in favor of the incremental moral and cultural destruction that we are witnessing on a daily basis.  When you push God into the closet and release morally compromised people who seek their own ways, call good bad and bad good, then even erase all symbols of God Almighty and His Son Christ Jesus from public places, the military chaplaincy, public schools, etc., what can you expect but the deviant, corrupt, self-indulgent results we are witnessing?

Freedom to choose abortion in any circumstance and at any point of a pregnancy for any reason?  Freedom to marry whomever one chooses even though that relationship cannot yield the natural balance and God-endorsed purposes?  Our children being told in public schools that they cannot pray or even mention Jesus, and worse, teachers telling our children God is a myth and failing them if they refuse to comply?  Boys demanding to use girls’ bathrooms and locker rooms and vice versa just because they choose not to identify with the gender on their birth certificates?  None of these issues stands apart from the real problem in this nation:  Moral degradation at an increasingly rapid pace, due to putting God and His Holy Bible in the closet and letting all sorts of moral depravity out!   Believers cannot pray in public?  We can’t display Christmas nativity scenes?  We cannot refuse to participate in abortion or homosexual marriages?  Military chaplains cannot pray in the name of Jesus Christ?  Crosses on churches and memorials must come down in order not to offend someone?  What about the fact that all of this offends us?  What about the First Amendment:  Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof …?

Our founders believed that freedom would not survive long in America if the people turned away from God.  Founder James Madison said in 1778 to the General Assembly of the State of Virginia:  “We have staked the whole future of American civilization, not upon the power of government, far from it.  We’ve staked the future of all our political institutions upon our capacity … to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God.” (America’s God and Country; William J. Federer; 2000; p. 411)  John Adams warned that our Constitution was written only for a moral and religious people and without those two, human passions would rip through that document like a whale goes through a net (Ibid.; p. 10; address to the military, October 11, 1798).

Right now in Bremerton, Washington, we have a football coach suspended for exercising his freedom of religion and choice as an individual before and after a football game to simply praise God Almighty on the football field.  No student, no administrator, NO ONE is forced to participate in his individual prayer, yet this is somehow a “separation of church and state” issue?  Again, the issue is about the disintegration of our culture, the falling away from and destroying our moral and spiritual foundations and the bullying and intimidation by the very people who lecture us on tolerance!

Forty-seven Congressional members have signed a letter to the Bremerton School District  expressing their outrage about the egregious attack on Coach Kennedy’s First Amendment Right to religious liberty and the free exercise thereof.  Click here to read letter.  Yet NOT ONE Washington State Member of Congress signed that letter!  Please call Sen. Patty Murray (D-Washington) at  202-224-3441 and Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Washington) at 202-224-2621 and your own district Representative to ask them why they are not supporting the First Amendment for all citizens; ask them to sign the aforementioned letter or send their own and to speak to this issue.   Click here to find out who your Representative is and how to contact him/her.

For more information on this issue, click here to listen to a speech by Sen. James Lankford (R-Oklahoma) on the senate floor.  For more insight into this and other issues, visit our national CWA website at ConcernedWomen.org.  Penny Nance, Mario Diaz and other CWA leaders are wonderful writers who will encourage you in a steadfast Judeo-Christian walk through this cultural jungle.

PRAY, EDUCATE, ACT!  Those are CWA’s three purposes.  If you are as outraged about the aforementioned issues as I am, please seriously consider supporting CWA with your prayers, share this action alert with others, and then step up to organize a Prayer/Action Chapter or Home Team in order to educate and activate other concerned citizens through a gathering in your home or church.  If we don’t change the course of this nation, think about who will!   Click here for a Leadership Application.

We also need more prayer warriors to pray for our state legislatures and other elected officials.  Please fill out the Encourage-A-Legislator form and send it back to me.  Click here for the form. Your daily prayers and weekly notes might just change one heart and save one soul.  Our prayers and notes are appreciated by believers serving us in Olympia and needed by non-believers!

Be a light for God in an increasingly dark world.  Let your Christ-like light shine and illuminate the field.  Darkness is eliminated when just one small light shines.

Impact the Next Generation in Washington Through the Work of Young Women for America!

By | Washington | No Comments

The Problem: Have you ever been discouraged when reading about the liberal mindset being taught in colleges today?  Concerned about how this next generation is being indoctrinated against the Biblical world view in an ever increasing manner by professors that openly oppose what we hold near and dear?  Felt helpless?

The Answer: We at CWA of Washington and CWA national have committed in 2016 to do our part in combating these anti-Biblical teachings through a project called Young Women for America (YWA).  YWA is a student-oriented initiative that is geared toward high school and college campuses to bring active groups of young like-minded women together to promote conservative values to their schools and the nation.

The good news is that there are young women out there within the multiple Washington colleges that are Christian, conservative and passionate about the issues you and I care about.  They just need our support and a platform to spread the word and make a difference on their campuses, the state and nation.  They need to be encouraged, equipped and trained.

The Need: Christian college women.  We have everything needed to serve these young ladies.  CWA national has hired staff, created curriculum for them to use to lead their chapters and accumulated funds to enable them to do what needs to be done to have a significant impact.  All we need now is young women to answer the call.  This is where you come in.

The Action: Can you help us identify these young women?  They might be your daughter, granddaughter, niece or part of your church family or friends of young ladies you know.  Please forward them this e-alert and be sure they visit the YWA website and read through this YWA brochure.  And encourage, inspire and urge them to make a difference in their generation through this exciting opportunity in YWA.

The Outcome: The build-up of conservative YWA chapters across Washington will finally provide a Kingdom response to the liberal studies and programs that have been built by the left for 20 years.  We will equip young women across the state to make a difference on their college campuses and have a greater impact in their communities, state and nation after they graduate.

Leave a legacy; inspire the next generation to lead a YWA chapter.

Contact us today with any questions and/or ideas on ways we can reach these Christian college and high school women with YWA information.

Thank you in advance for your diligence in this matter.

CWA of Washington September Action Alert – Occupy Until He Returns

By | Washington | No Comments

Dear CWA of Washington Member and Friend,

“Occupy until I return” (KJV) or “Do business till I return” (NKJV) is the mandate our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ expressed in the parable about the ten minas (Luke 19:13).  But the citizens hated the nobleman and refused to submit to his reign.  When he returned, he called each servant to account for his role in the business while he was gone. Rewards were to be given out according to how well the servants performed.

During the Uganda revival, Jackson Senyonga stated, “The condition of the society is the report card of the church.”  What blessing or even protection can we expect from God when we look around at our decaying culture?  How is the Body of Christ engaging the culture?  Is it?  Isn’t it time for each Bible-based believer to come out of the closet and stand on the wall to defend our culture?  The secularization of our nation is splintering us as a people and destroying the foundations upon which we were built:  “If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (Psalm 11:3) I agree with Bishop Jackson, president of STAND (Staying True to America’s National Destiny), who has stated about the Supreme Court’s marriage decision, “It is as if a collective madness has settled over our nation’s elite, and they are trying hard to bring everyone under the same cloud of confusion.”  Yet, our “God is not the author of confusion” (1 Cor. 14:33), so what are YOU willing to do?  Prayer is the first step, but as James stated, “Faith without works is dead.” (James 2:20)

CWA’s President and CEO Penny Nance has recently encouraged believers to stand firm with these words: “Therefore, we do not despair. We have much work to do to reestablish a pro-marriage, pro-family culture in our nation, but we embrace the challenges ahead, knowing that we stand on solid ground when we say that marriage, as intended by God, is the best model for strong, healthy, stable families that serve as the only secure foundation for our society’s future.”

CWA’s Legal Counsel Mario Diaz has stated:  “The conscience of our nation is crying out at every corner: ‘Danger ahead! Turn!’ Our response will determine the course of American history. But, as these attacks on religious liberty remind us, time is running out. No question about that.”

Will you stand with Concerned Women for America and many other Christian leaders in declaring that we will not yield to the “collective madness”?  The fight to defend and protect our Bible-based foundation, our religious liberty, God’s creation of family, and natural marriage is not over. It is just beginning.

Please sign up to become a CWA activist by forming a Prayer/Action Chapter or Home Team.  Gather together once a month or more often to pray for our nation, our faith, our families and our freedoms or gather e-mail friends in a Home Team and send out CWA prayer requests for our nation and our state.  Write letters to the editor and to your state legislators urging them to consider what the state needs to be doing in the next legislative session to protect the religious liberties of their citizens. Contact Washington’s Congressional delegation and let them know where you stand on the issues. Then educate your family members, church friends, perhaps your pastor(s) on what’s happening and ask them to join you on the wall to protect our nation before the enemy completely overwhelms us.  Prayer is powerful; let’s engage fully in the cultural battle with our prayers preceding God’s army!

Our responsibility is to humble ourselves, pray and seek His face, and turn from our wicked ways (2 Chronicles 7:14).  Only then will our God hear our prayers, forgive our sins, and heal our land.   As CWA Legal Counsel Mario Diaz states with regard to the jailing of Kim Davis in Kentucky for her choice to obey God:  “May the Holy Spirit guard and guide Kim Davis wherever she goes.  And may it guide us in our journey to stand boldly for God’s truth, whatever the cost.”

God is listening; are you asking?  Join CWA of Washington in concerted, sincere, urgent prayer for an awakening and spiritual revival in this nation and in our state.  Then, in the spirit of James 2:20, let us know what you are willing to do, then let us know what happens in your community when you and like-minded believers pray earnestly.
