CWA of Washington February 3 Action Alert – Not Laboring in Vain

By | Washington | No Comments

Dear Concerned Women for America of Washington Member,

In this day and age, we as Christians can feel very isolated and intimidated by the daily news, wondering if our outreach to the world for the Gospel of Christ is in vain.  Let me encourage you with Paul’s advice to the Philippians in chapter 2, verses 14-16:

“Do all things without murmuring or disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the Day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain.”

While the mainstream media may ignore last week’s March for Life in Washington, D.C., this link should encourage you that we labor not in vain in our support of the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death: CWA’s Penny Nance Talks March for Life on FOX.

Washington state citizens in the midst of court battles regarding religious liberty and the free exercise thereof in our private and public lives, including our businesses:  Stormans in Olympia, Barronelle Stutzman in Richland, Coach Joe Kennedy in Bremerton.

Pro-family state organizations engaged in the battle to protect and preserve the family as God created it, including one man-one woman marriage, respect for the unborn, parental rights, and more.

Concerned Women for America asks our members to have faith with action, always beginning with prayer.  We choose to educate and encourage you to consider legislative bills that relate to our Seven Core Issues:  Defense of Family, Sanctity of Human Life, Education, Sexual Exploitation, Religious Liberty, National Sovereignty, and Support for Israel.

Below you will find the bills we would like you to call or email your state legislators about supporting.  At the beginning of the legislative session, the bills are being heard by committees, then they are either stopped in committee or they move on to the appropriate house (House of Representatives or Senate) for a floor vote.  We will update you on these bills on a weekly basis, but we also encourage you to go to the Legislative Homepage regularly to find out the status of these bills. While it’s important to contact each on the committee, the legislator who represents you is most likely to respond to your feedback.  You may contact members of the specified committee or other committees from the legislative homepage by clicking on “Legislative Committees” on the right side of the page.  You may either contact your legislators directly through that website or you can leave a message on the Legislative Hotline at 1-800-562-6000.

HB 1011 – Relating to allowing the use of gender-segregated facilities; and amending RCW 49.60.030

CWA supports this bill.

Each individual has a right to the expectation of privacy, lack of fear or intimidation or embarrassment while in a bathroom, shower room, locker room, or other facility which traditionally have been gender-segregated according to biological and chromosomal identification.  This bill does not change the rights of children or disabled persons to be taken into the bathroom of their parent’s or caretaker’s gender, but it does allow public and private entities to limit use of facilities segregated by gender with some exceptions.

Click here to read the bill in its entirety.

Status: Currently, HB 1011 is in the House Judiciary Committee.

Take Action: Contact the committee members and ask them to vote YES on HB 1011.

Sanctity of Life:

HB 1003 Relating to requiring parental notification for abortion, adding a new section to chapter 9.02 RCW; prescribing penalties; and declaring an emergency.

CWA supports this bill.

Parental rights with regard to their minor children must be respected and upheld in order for our family structure to survive and flourish.  When children must have our permission to take any medications at school, etc., it is logical to respect the same level of responsibility and accountability for all medical decisions.  Our daughters deserve our support and need involved parents!  There are exceptions made for emergencies or incest.

Click here to read the bill in its entirety.

Status: HB 1003 is in the House Health Care & Wellness Committee.

Take Action: Contact the committee members and ask them to vote YES on HB 1003.

HB 1649 – Relating to declaring that the right to life, as recognized in the Declaration of Independence and guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States and Washington state, is vested in each human being beginning at the moment at which an individual comes into being; and adding a new chapter to Title 1 RCW.

CWA supports this bill.

The right to life is an unalienable right granted to each human being by Almighty God; no other human being has a right to destroy such life without just cause.  The unborn human being deserves particular protection because of its helpless state and needs a voice to verbalize its rights. With modern technology, we are able to view 3-D ultrasound pictures of the preborn, so there is no excuse not to recognize them as fully human beings with the same right to life as the rest of us.  The acronym “SLED” has been used to explain this: Size, location, environment, and development should not define a human life.

Click here to read the bill in its entirety.

Status: HB 1649 is in the House Health Care & Wellness Committee.

Take Action: Contact the committee members and ask them to vote YES on HB 1649.

HB 1243 – Relating to prohibiting the sale, donation, or use of aborted fetal body parts; amending RCW 70.58.150, 68.64.150, 68.04.020, and 68.50.110; adding new sections to chapter 9.02 RCW; and declaring an emergency.

CWA supports this bill.

It’s simply an abomination to sell human baby parts.  Organ donation from adults of their own free will is a totally separate issue, since first these babies must die at the hand of an abortionist, then their parts are sold or used as if they are mechanical parts not related to the tragic loss of an individual’s life. At no point after conception is a human baby anything other than a human being, no matter the “SLED.”

Click here to read the bill in its entirety.

Status: HB 1243 is in the House Health Care & Wellness Committee.

Take Action: Contact the committee members and ask them to vote YES on HB 1243.

Religious Liberty:

HB – 1178 Relating to protecting the rights of religious freedom and conscience of individuals in their beliefs and practices from government discrimination; and adding a new chapter to Title 49 RCW.

CWA supports this bill.

This bill restates the First Amendment, thus ensuring the protection of the rights of religious liberty and exercise and conscience from government discrimination, particularly regarding the definition of marriage:  New Section. Sec. 2. The legislature finds the following:  (1) Leading legal scholars concur that conflicts between same-sex marriage and religious liberty are real and should be addressed through legislation; (4) Protecting religious freedom from government intrusion is a government interest of the highest order …

This bill would protect citizens like florist Barronelle Stutzman who was sued by the Attorney General for her refusal to participate in a same-sex “marriage”.  She stands to lose not only her business, but her entire life-savings if her religious liberty is not upheld.  Keep praying.

Click here to read the bill in its entirety.

Status: HB 1243 is in the House Judiciary Committee.

Take Action: Contact the committee members and ask them to vote YES on HB 1243.

The mindset used to be: “Is it okay for Christians to be involved in public policy?”  The question now should be: “Is it okay for Christians not to be involved in public policy?” If we as believers aren’t involved, who is?  The answer to that question is increasingly troublesome, isn’t it?  Don’t be isolated or intimidated, but rather put on your spiritual armor (Ephesians 6:11-17) and stand fast!  Join or organize a local CWA Prayer/Action Chapter or sign up for our “Encourage-A-Legislator” Campaign.  Pray, educate and take action, however you choose to do that, but please stand and shine for God’s Word of life, hope and joy through Christ Jesus, God’s Son and our precious Savior.

May God enable us to be “holding fast the word of life” and shine “as lights in the world,” witnesses to God’s Holy Word for all of mankind.

I look forward to hearing from you!

CWA of Washington January 16 Action Alert – Stand

By | Washington | No Comments

“Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong” 1 Cor. 16:13

Dear CWA of Washington Member,

New Year’s greetings from CWA of Washington!  We trust you had a Christmas full of joy and wonder at God’s gift of His Son and our Savior, Christ Jesus, and that 2017 is off to a good start for you.  CWA will continue to watch, stand fast in the faith, and encourage you to do the same with courage and strength from our Almighty God.

ENCOURAGE-A-LEGISLATOR!  There is still time for you to sign up to encourage a state legislator during the 2017 Washington State Legislature’s session.  We need to pray for the governing authorities, as Paul exhorted us in 1 Timothy 2:1-3.  President Ronald Reagan said once that “if we ever forget that we are One Nation Under God, then we will be a Nation gone under.” Let’s help those authorities to remember the importance of the Bible to this nation’s founding, history and future.   Please click here for more details, then, consider participating in this campaign.

WASHINGTON CITIZENS bravely and strongly standing fast in the faith who need our prayer support:  The Storman Family in Olympia, Barronelle Stutzman in Richland and Coach Joe Kennedy in Bremerton.  Although the details are specific to each case, the overall principle is the same:  Denial of First Amendment rights to the practice of freedom of religion in one’s private and public life.  Please continue to pray that these and other citizens across our nation will continue to boldly stand fast and eventually win their legal cases.

STATE LEGISLATIVE SESSION HAS BEGUN: The 2017 Washington State Legislature convened on Monday, January 9.  CWA of Washington keeps an eye on bills that relate to our Seven Core Issues:  Defense of Family, Sanctity of Life, Education, Sexual Exploitation, Religious Liberty, National Sovereignty, and Support for Israel.

STAND IN THE GAP WITH US: We will inform you of any bills related to those Seven Core Issues, with the hope that you will interact with your district legislators, politely and boldly expressing your thoughts so that they can truly represent you.  One of the Scriptures that motivates me to apply Biblical principles to the culture is Ezekiel 22:30 when God looked for a man to stand in the gap before Him on behalf of the land, but found no one.  Let’s pray this is the year that Bible-based citizens are not absent, but stand in the gap.

CUTTING EDGE INFORMATION: I hope you check the national CWA website on a regular basis.  It is loaded with educational articles on cutting edge issues of importance to Bible-based citizens.

INSPIRATIONAL/MOTIVATIONAL SCRIPTURE: How better to begin this New Year than to remember God’s Word?  May this be a year of standing fast in the faith with boldness and strength.

  • “Because we have such hope, we speak with great boldness.” (2 Corinthians 16:13)
  • “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” (Galatians 6:9)
  • “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”  (Ephesians 6:10-11)

39th ANNUAL WASHINGTON STATE MARCH FOR LIFE:  Monday, January 23, 2017, at noon on the Capitol steps in Olympia.  Take a carload down with you and join this wonderful event to support innocent human life from conception to natural death.  Consider standing with CWA of Washington.  Look for our banner and join us.  Stand for the sanctity of human life by marching with thousands of others; you will be glad you did. Bring the whole family!  We strongly urge you to consider making an appointment with your legislators to express your concerns on this issue and to let them know you were at the rally. Click here to find out who your legislators are and how to contact them.

CALLING ALL LEADERS:  CWA of Washington is looking for concerned citizens to stand fast in the faith and to be brave and strong.  We are looking for leaders to join our Steering Committee as issues experts.  If you have a passion for one of our core issues, please pray about activating that passion through CWA.  Beyond our witness for the Lord Jesus Christ, our most important work is to apply our Biblical principles to our lives, starting with our own lives and families, then to the culture that surrounds us.  Since public policy controls our lives, our input as Christians is so vital, so “that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (I Tim 2:3).  Of course, that statement depends on our “supplications, prayers, intercessions and giving of thanks for all men, for kings and all who are in authority”  (I Tim 2:1-2).  Please click here for a Leadership Application to indicate your willingness to step out and lead.

PRAYER/ACTION CHAPTER LEADERS:  Prayer is CWA’s primary incentive, believing Paul’s exhortation in the verses quoted above.  I exhort you, along with Paul, to pray for our leaders, and a good way to do that is through a CWA Prayer/Action Chapter in your own neighborhood with friends and family.  The average number of prayer warriors in a chapter is five to six, so you can easily meet in a home or church room.  Meeting monthly for one or two hours is all you need to do.  CWA provides a monthly Prayer/Action Newsletter with national concerns and I provide updates on state concerns through e-alerts.  Please pray about this opportunity and if you are called to it, send in this application.

PARTNER WITH CWA OF WASHINGTON FINANCIALLY: Please consider making a contribution today of any amount to this ministry.  CWA of Washington is run 100 percent by volunteers so 100 percent of your tax-deductible gift goes directly to the work at hand.  Contribute online or send a check to the address below.  Write the check out to “Concerned Women for America” and put “CWA of Washington” in the memo line to insure the funds are accredited to our state activity.

Thank you for your prayers, response to our e-alerts and financial support.  You are immensely appreciated.

CWA of Washington December 14 Action Alert – A Child Is Born

By | Washington | No Comments

Dear CWA of Washington Friends,

Greetings for a very MERRY CHRISTMAS and a most HAPPY NEW YEAR from Concerned Women for America (CWA) of Washington!  We appreciate you and your support all year long, but especially as the Christian world celebrates the REAL REASON FOR THE SEASON, CHRIST JESUS, born as a child in a humble manger.  His unending grace and mercy spread to all who believe in God’s plan of salvation for all of mankind.  What a loving God we have!  Our Father God knows that love cannot be forced; therefore, He allows us to make the choice to receive His only begotten Son and to experience the love, joy, peace, and relationship that all flow from that choice.  What a God we serve!

Pray for our nation.  CWA is making plans for the New Year in order to represent you and your pro-family Biblical values.  We encourage you to continue to pray for America’s restoration to our religious heritage and for protection of God’s design for the family, as well as our other Core Issues.

Pray within a CWA Prayer/Action Chapter.  Look for a Prayer/Action Chapter in your community on our state webpage.  If there is not a chapter nearby, please consider becoming a Prayer/Action Leader!  I have been one for many years and so enjoy meeting with faithful prayer warriors.  In fact, we had our Christmas luncheon this week and the prayers, fellowship and food were all such an encouragement!  We Christians have such an awesome opportunity to pray together for our nation, our state and our families – don’t  you want to be a part of that?

Pray for a state legislator.  Lift up one of our state legislators in prayer by joining our 2017 Encourage-A-Legislator campaign!  Washington has 147 legislators (49 senators and 98 representatives).  Would you commit to adopt one of them and pray for him or her daily during the ninety-day session from January until April, 2017?  The program would also require that you send your legislator a weekly postcard (we will provide) with a handwritten personal note.  This short note will be a Scripture verse or quote (we will provide suggestions) as an expression of appreciation for his or her service in the legislature, sharing that you are praying.  The cards are never used to lobby the legislator. Click here for more information.

Respond to our educational e-alerts.  CWA begins with prayer, then seeks to educate our members on our Seven Core Issues.  Our monthly and weekly (during the legislative session) alerts are written to keep you up-to-date on those issues and how you can make a difference through prayer and action.  Please feel free to share those alerts with other concerned citizens. If you are not signed up for e-alerts, go to and fill in your information under “Stay Informed!”

Regularly listen to our “Capitol Hill Briefings.” CWA CEO and President Penny Nance has started giving daily “Capitol Hill Briefs” on the radio.   To learn more or to sign up to receive them in your inbox, click here; you can also find out where to listen on your local radio station here.

Watch for opportunities to get involved!  As James reminds us, faith without action is dead; so, please consider what you might do to promote Biblical values in our culture in order to protect your family.  We will be announcing activities in our January alert.

Give a gift today. Consider giving a year-end gift by sending a check to the address below.  Write it out to “Concerned Women for America” and put “CWA of Washington” in the memo line. Or, donate online under my picture on our webpage.

That is such a simple statement, yet so profound when we remember how much the birth of any child changes everything in a family, much less how much the birth of the Christ Child changed our world!  Have a wonderful Christmas season.  We are so blessed to know the true REASON FOR THE SEASON!  MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Maureen Richardson

Sign Up for the 2017 Encourage-A-Legislator Program Today!

By | Washington | No Comments

“Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.  For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” (Timothy 2:1-4)

Because CWA believes prayer is crucial to revival and restoration of a nation, we are asking you to participate in our Encourage-A-Legislator Campaign for the 2017 Washington Legislative Session.  We are so excited to see what God is going to do in the hearts and minds of our state legislators as we pray for them each day and encourage them through our weekly postcards.

Washington has 147 legislators (49 senators and 98 representatives).  Would you commit to adopt one of them and pray for him or her daily during the ninety-day session from January until April?  And then, send your legislator a postcard weekly with a handwritten personal note.  This short note will be a Scripture verse or quote (CWA will provide this material) as an expression of appreciation for his or her service in the legislature, sharing that you are praying.  The cards are never used to lobby the legislator.

CWA has implemented this program in many states with a great blessing from God.  Legislators have responded with humble appreciation.  Will you be one of our faithful prayer warriors?  If so, we will assign a legislator to you and supply you with helpful materials.  For further information, call State Director Maureen Richardson at 425-869-1923 or email her at  Please be sure to include the following information: Name, address, phone number, email address and legislative district.  If you don’t know what legislative district you are in go to to find out.

Please consider contributing to the expense of this project by donating online or sending a check to CWA of Washington, P. O. Box 143, Woodinville, WA  98072.

CWA of Washington October 27 Action Alert – Absolutes

By | Washington | No Comments

“Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty, as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers.” John Jay, America’s first Supreme Court Chief Justice

Dear CWA of Washington Member,

Washington State continues to make a reputation for itself by being one of the leaders in “progressive” ideas.  Once, when I was in Washington, D.C., someone responded to my statement that I was from Washington State with, “Oh, you’re from the left coast!”  I had never heard that phrase, but if the shoe fits … !

Religious Liberty of Businesses Targeted

Sadly, many of our citizens are suffering because of the “progressive” nature of our state.  Coach Joe Kennedy was fired by the Bremerton School District when he refused to yield to their pressure to stop his short, private prayer on the football field after each game.  Florist Barronelle Stutzman was sued by the state’s attorney general when she declined to celebrate a homosexual wedding by supplying the flowers, although other florists in the Richland area were more than happy to do so.  The Stormans family continues to stand for their right to not supply abortion-causing pharmaceuticals and, again, there are plenty of other pharmacies in the Olympia area willing to profit from those drugs.  In all three cases, it is increasingly clear that the Washington State government is targeting Christians for living out their faith as allowed in the First Amendment:  “Congress shall make no law respecting the freedom of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof … ”  Remember that while those three cases wind their way through the court system, we need to continue to pray for Coach Kennedy, Mrs. Stutzman and the Stormans whose case made it to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, which denied their claims and then in June the U. S. Supreme Court refused to hear their case.

Religious Liberty and Parental Rights Targeted In Education

It seems that Washington State’s governing authorities are focused on destroying not only religious liberty in this state, but also on interfering with parental rights again.  For a decade, we have seen our public schools transform from teaching toward objective education standards to increasingly more subjective standards.  Knowing how to get an answer has become more important than actually getting the right answer.  How many of you want an accountant or pharmacist to use that philosophy?  I don’t; that’s for sure!  Now, in addition, the state plans to ignore parental rights and concerns and teach all of our children about “gender fluidity” from Kindergarten on.  Please take a look for yourself, check out Washington’s Health and Physical Education Standards curriculum.  Specifically pages 29 and 32. Consider what those new standards mean for people of faith, with all public-school children learning about gender identity and expression beginning in kindergarten, as well as teachers who disagree with that particular moral leaning being forced to teach something against their moral/religious/ethical conscience.  The state’s argument is that this approach will lessen bullying of children.  This is a strawman, for teaching against bullying for any reason covers this issue.  Bullying is never acceptable.

Plus, as we all know, once abortion was accepted as legal, the number of abortions skyrocketed.  Will we see a similar consequence from teaching our children that they can choose their own “gender”?

CWA’s Seven Core Issues (family and marriage, sanctity of human life, education, sexual exploitation, religious liberty, national sovereignty, and support for Israel) are what we fight for through our involvement in public policy.  We believe that God’s Word provides eternal principles by which we need to live and that man must not ignore or compromise those principles.  That’s rather absolute, isn’t it?   God’s opposition wants us to accept that there are no absolutes and that their subjective approach is much more loving and tolerant.  However, as John Adams said, “Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.”  I’m sure that modern day political correctness would not approve of Adams’ statement!

PRAY!  Pray for Coach Joe Kennedy, whose private prayer on the football field after games caused him to be fired by the Bremerton School District Judge. Last month, U.S. District Judge Ronald Leighton declined to issue a preliminary injunction that would have forced the Bremerton School District to rehire Coach Joe while his case is litigated.  (District Does Not Have to Rehire Praying Coach).

PRAY!  Pray for the Stormans family who lost their appeal case at the U. S. Supreme Court (US Supreme Court Allows Extreme Washington State Pharmacy Policy to Stand).

PRAY! Pray for Arlene’s Flowers Owner Barronelle Stutzman who will have a hearing on November 15 at 9:00 a.m., at Bellevue College (State of Washington v. Arlene’s Flowers | Ingersoll v. Arlene’s Flowers) Please pray that Mrs. Stutzman’s case will receive a fair hearing and that her religious liberty will be restored.

TAKE ACTION! A pre-hearing rally for Mrs. Stutzman’s case will be held on November 15 at the Carlson Theatre at Bellevue College.  It will start at 7:30 a.mClick here for more information about this event that Family Policy Institute is putting on.  Be sure to invite friends and family.

TAKE ACTION! VOTE!  Thomas Jefferson once advised:  “If we are to guard against ignorance and remain free, it is the responsibility of every American to be informed.”  To be a responsible voter, please learn as much as you can about the candidates and issues.  CWA has several non-partisan guides for the current election, which you can find at

CWA of Washington September 20 Action Alert – Carefully Choose

By | Washington | No Comments

“When the righteous are in authority the people rejoice; when the wicked rule, the people mourn” (Prov.29:2)

Dear CWA of Washington Members,

I just returned from a speaking engagement in eastern Washington.  It is always a delight to meet and speak with CWA members and other like-minded citizens, and this event was another good opportunity to do just that!  I would be happy to come speak to your Prayer/Action Chapter or church women’s group or any other group where concerned citizens meet to pray, share and learn.

Since we are commanded to pray for the governing authorities (1 Timothy 2:1-3), it’s obvious that we need to carefully choose those people who represent us, seeking out those who share our values and concerns and are willing to align their priorities according to God’s Word and principles.  President Reagan was one of those authorities who believed that God had a plan for our nation, as revealed in this quote:  “I have always believed that this anointed land was set apart in an uncommon way, that a divine plan placed this great continent here between the oceans to be found by people from every corner of the earth who had a special love of faith and freedom.”  In 1798, John Adams stated to the military that our Constitution was written only for a moral and religious people and that without those two elements, our Constitution would be destroyed just as a whale destroys a net.  Our Constitution reminds us that our rights-among them life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness-come from God and that government exists to protect those rights, not give or take them away from us.

We have a long, verifiable history of Judeo-Christian principles influencing our culture, a history that God’s opposition has been working overtime to berate and hide.  We must stand for our historic, documented Biblical faith tradition and work hard to rebuild the Body of Christ if our nation is to survive.  Will you pray for a spiritual awakening for this nation?  The beginning of the 19th and 20th centuries both saw a huge awakening and revival, so let’s pray for God’s grace and mercy for another such event in the 21st century!  Will you consider gathering friends and family to pray for that?  How about hosting a Prayer/Action Chapter that will gather concerned citizens to pray, educate and activate themselves and other concerned citizens?  Or perhaps your style leads you to a Home Team which you contact via e-mail to ask for prayer and to inform about current cultural issues?  Please prayerfully consider what YOU CAN DO!  If interested, send an e-mail to me at for more information or fill out the attached “Application for Leadership”.

Do we deserve the governing authorities we have?  Do we educate ourselves and then vote?   Our sovereign God rules over all, and we have the responsibility, privilege and duty to elect righteous leaders in our democratic system. “When the righteous are in authority the people rejoice; when the wicked rule, the people mourn” (Prov.29:2).   You may register here or request registration forms for your church and register others:

Encourage-A-Legislator Campaign:  Thank you for supporting this program!  We always need more prayer warriors, so please consider how you can participate.  You might pray for the EAL program’s success, i.e. 147 volunteers to pray for each and every one of our state legislators or become a more active prayer warrior and adopt one or more legislators for whom you will pray on a daily basis and mail a postcard with encouraging Bible verses or historic quotes weekly.  Click here for the EAL application form.

CWA’s first core issue is the sanctity of human life.  With that in mind, we encourage you to put into action your pro-life values.  There are many locations for organized, peaceful prayerful vigils and likely one near you!  The next campaign runs from September 28-November 6.  You may access the official “40 Days for Life” events at this website:

Bellevue Prayer Vigil for Life

On the east side of Seattle, “Bellevue Prayer Vigil for Life” is similar to but independent of 40 Days for Life simply because they do not operate 24/7.   For information on that vigil, visit:

“But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls.” (Hebrews 10:39)

Pray.  Educate yourselves on issues (  Then take some action:  How about a voter registration table at your church?  Do you know that only 50% of Christians are registered voters and of those only 50% vote?  We can only change the culture if we are involved as responsible citizens!  You’ll find useful information on helping others to register at this website:

Again, remember to pray for our nation, our state, the election and our families, according to God’s will and those principles that guided our nation’s founding.  Let’s cry out to God together as His followers.  Educate yourselves and others on the current issues, then consider taking one or more of the above mentioned actions.

Thank you for standing with Concerned Women for America of Washington as we engage the culture through public policy in order to protect the family through prayer and action!

Renew your membership today and sign up to host a Prayer/Action Chapter in your community!

Supreme Court Stays Ruling Forcing Schools to Allow Transgender Students to Use the Bathroom of Their Choice

By | Defense of Family, Education, Legal, News and Events, Press Releases, Virginia, Washington | No Comments

CWALAC_MediaStatementWashington, D.C. – The Supreme Court has put on hold a Fourth Circuit Court ruling requiring a Virginia school district to accommodate a transgender high school student’s request to use the boys’ bathroom. The justices split 5-3 on the issue to temporarily lift the obligation of the Gloucester County school system to allow one of their students to use the bathroom of her choice in accordance with Obama Administration guidance. CWA CEO and President Penny Nance has this to say:

“We commend the Supreme Court for voting to stay this case and encourage them to do the right thing when the time comes to rule on the merits.

“This case is a result of yet another Obama Administration overreach. To require schools to allow students into any bathroom of their choice is an overstep on legal boundaries by redefining the scope and reach of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and slapping the heavy hand of government on local schools.

“This would also impact the use of showers, locker rooms, school travel and more. This unwise and rash policy would favor the desires of a small group over young women with religious, cultural, and modesty concerns. The Court should not shove this unwise policy on the states.

“Schools all over this nation have rightly worked on a case-by-case basis to accommodate kids struggling with gender dysphoria. They should not be forced by big government to violate the privacy of other students and perhaps even create trauma for the very kids Obama pretends to protect. Local school districts, with the input of parents and health professionals, should be setting school policy on such a sensitive and controversial issue, not Washington.

“Finally, the left always uses children to accomplish its goals of social reengineering. The adults closest to these children should decide what’s best for all the children in the school. Safety and kindness should be the guiding principles, not threats from the bullies in Washington. We hope the Supreme Court agrees.”

CWA of Washington June 17 Action Alert – Faith and Family

By | Washington | No Comments

Dear CWA of Washington Members and Friends,

Greetings once again from the state office!  We appreciate your support and involvement in CWA, whether as a prayer warrior, leader or member.  It takes all of us to continue to protect our families through prayer and action and to remind our fellow citizens of the importance of our religious heritage through God’s Holy Word.  God created the family to love and support one another.  As our Heavenly Father, He showed His love for us by sending His only begotten Son to die for us, that we may live eternally with Him.  Through Biblical faith and family, our nation has served as a light on the hill.  Let us not allow that light to be extinguished.  It is our choice to live as free men under God’s rule or to succumb to man’s tyranny.  Which choice do you make?

CWA’s national office is requesting that we take action to stop the proposed draft registration for our daughters and granddaughters.  Basically, we’re saying to the government:  “Keep your hands off our daughters!”  Click here to join this movement.

CWA of Washington has joined the fight to protect our privacy and safety in restrooms and locker rooms.  Please sign Initiative 1515 and collect as many signatures as possible.  Click here for the petition, to find a distribution center near you and more.  Be sure to mail in your initiatives by July 1 in order for them to be counted and delivered to Olympia on time.  Then pray that we will collect enough signatures to put this issue on the November ballot.

CWA national has composed a letter to protest President Obama’s threat to remove federal funding from schools and districts that refuse to allow the invasion of our children’s bathrooms and locker rooms.  Our concern is not the tiny percentage of transgendered individuals, but those who are already using this policy to take advantage of their unquestionable entrance into opposite-sex areas.  A quick web search reveals a growing number of those cases appearing across the nation, putting women and girls in particular at risk.  Click here for the letter.  Please personalize the letter and mail it to both Washington State’s Superintendent of Public Instruction, Randy Dorn, and your local public school district’s Superintendent.  Dorn’s address:

Randy Dorn

Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction

Mail stop: 47200
Old Capitol Building
P.O. Box 47200
Olympia, WA 98504-7200

Please share this information and letter with every parent, grandparent and others.  This is an outrage!  It is an egregious attack on parental rights, family values and our reasonable expectation of personal safety and privacy.  Randy Dorn and local public school districts’ superintendents need to hear our message loud and clear.

Strong Families, Strong Faith, hosted by CWA of Washington, will be held in Spokane on July 22.  This is a regional meeting for CWA members and friends.  Postcards will be in the mail soon.  If you, or a concerned friend, wish to attend, you may register with the state office by e-mailing us at  This is a no-cost meeting intended to educate and encourage our members and friends.  Speakers will include Research Mom and a state representative.  Please mark your calendar, watch for your invitation, and invite a friend!  If you do not receive a postcard by the end of June, please contact the state office using the contact information below.

Decision America Tour 2016 hosted by Franklin Graham will be held in Olympia at our state capitol on June 29.  Graham is visiting each state capital throughout the nation.  More than 100,000 people have participated so far with 28 states to go.  Please take a carload of prayer warriors to join in this massive prayer rally.  Click here for more information.

FAITH, FAMILY & FREDOM.  Exercise your rights and join CWA in prayer, education and action.  Remember Jesus’ words:  “If you have faith as a mustard seed …” (Matthew 17:20; Luke 17:6) and “When the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?”  (Luke 18:8)

CWA of Washington June 3 Action Alert – Male and Female He Created Them

By | Washington | No Comments

“So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” (Genesis 1:27)

Dear CWA of Washington Member and Friend,

Why does that Genesis statement so anger those He has created?  It’s perfectly clear, isn’t it?  Not only is the God of the Holy Bible the Creator God, but He also created male and female humans in His image!  Mankind is meant to worship Him as our Heavenly Father, yet so many of His creation rebel against that very Truth!  As the cultural debate rages on about “gender identity” (aka how you feel and define yourself) versus biological/chromosomal fact, more and more stories are emerging for us to consider.

Our main concern about the “bathroom mandate” is described well by CWA President and CEO Penny Nance’s May 20 alert:  “Gov. Pat McCrory and North Carolina leaders are at ground zero of the fight to protect women and children. They passed a simple, commonsense law to prevent transgender men – or, more importantly, a sexual predator posing as a transgender individual – from sharing a public restroom with our daughters, mothers … and any women.”  For more articles on this issue and CWA’s response, please visit our national website.

With all the news swirling around “the bathroom law”, I thought you might appreciate reading just one of the stories about individuals taking advantage of that law in Washington state, individuals who do not identify as transgendered, but use the law to enter opposite-sex facilities for their own reasons:  Seattle Man Undresses in Women’s Locker Room at Local Pool to Test New Transgender Bathroom Rule

In addition, professionals such as Dr. John Hugh are speaking out about this issue:  Johns Hopkins Psychiatrist: Transgender is ‘Mental Disorder;’ Sex Change ‘Biologically Impossible’.

Have you ever heard the saying “Nothing like getting your own ox gored to get your attention!”?  I’ve been waiting for some liberal women to get their oxen gored, and it happened this week!  Visit this website to read about it:  ACLU Leader Resigns in Protest After Transwomen Scare Her Daughters in Restroom

Finally, here is a question posted to Facebook from Tamara Scott, CWA of Iowa State Director:   “If a man assaults a woman in the restroom and she fights back – could she then get charged for a hate crime since she ‘hit’ someone identifying themselves as a transgender – at least for that moment?”

“Repeal the Bathroom Rule”, Initiative 1515, 1) repeals the “open bathroom rule” mandated by Washington’s unelected Human Rights Commission (HRC), 2) restores the rights of business owners to maintain gender specific facilities, and 3) requires public schools to maintain gender specific facilities.

As stated above, the issue is not about transgender rights, but about the rights of the majority of the population to the expectation of privacy and safety in our bathrooms and locker rooms.  Reasonable accommodations can be made to allow everyone’s privacy and safety, but the HRC ruling must first be repealed.  Please visit CWA’s website to download their brochure  Since When are Feelings > Fact?

The time is short to collect enough valid signatures, and we need the help of every one of you!  Go to to request a petition be mailed to you or to find a distribution site near you.

Be sure to mail in your initiative (even with just your signature) to Just Want Privacy’s address on the back of the petition no later than July 1.  The initiative must be filed in Olympia by July 8, and we need time to count and organize them for delivery.

PRAY for enough valid signatures to be collected in order for Initiative 1515 to be on the November ballot.

PRAY for First Amendment rights to religious liberty and the free exercise thereof to be restored to the Stormans in Olympia, Barronelle Stutzman and Arlene’s Flowers in Richland, and the Kleins in Oregon.  See last month’s action alert for details:

PRAY for a spiritual awakening, followed by a spiritual revival of the Biblical foundations of this nation.

And “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.  Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”  (Ephesians 6:10-11)

Thank you for standing with Concerned Women for America of Washington as we engage the culture through public policy in order to protect the family through prayer and action!  Renew your membership today and sign up to host a Prayer/Action Chapter in your community!
