Dear CWA of Washington Members,

Fall greetings to you! In an election year, so many messages come into our homes via the internet, television and radio, it may seem overwhelming. However, this particular election season presents the opportunity to slow down the current race away from God. We are exhorted to run the race well for our Lord, not away from Him:

“and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith…” (Hebrews 12:1-2)

In 1816, John Jay, the first Chief Justice of the U. S. Supreme Court, admonished, “Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty, as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers.”

God’s Holy Bible tells us to pray for the governing authorities and to submit to them for He has allowed them to be in those positions. Please consider Justice Jay’s comment as you contemplate your choices for positions of authority. CWA wants to encourage you to vote in the November 2 election. This year presents us with perhaps some of the most important choices ever in the history of the nation. Will we maintain our Constitutional Republic or move toward a European-type socialist democracy? Will our liberties be protected or whittled away? Only we the people can determine the direction of this country. Please do your best to encourage others to send in their ballots on time after careful, informed consideration of their choices.

CWA’s national website has some of the best voters’ resources I have seen for years. Please check out “VOTE For A Better Tomorrow” to see if any of them will enable you to encourage your friends, family and church members to take seriously their responsibility as citizens of this nation (www.cwfa.org). CWA of Washington joined Family Policy Institute of Washington, Human Life of Washington and Eagle Forum to publish a voter’s guide. Please go to www.washingtonvotersguide.com to compare candidates’ answers on issues of interest to people of faith.

Four CWA of Washington leaders attended the Leadership Conference in Irvine, California two weeks ago. On Friday night, the Concerned Women Legislative Action Committee sponsored a “Spending Revolt Rally”. I have attached the speech I delivered at that rally. Saturday we heard from national CWA leaders such as CEO Penny Nance, Field Director Kenda Bartlett, Mario Diaz (Policy Director for Legal Issues), Janice Crouse (Director of the Beverly LaHaye Institute), Shari Randall (Director of Legislation and Public Policy) and Mike Mears (Director of State Legislative Relations).

We invite you to attend Leadership next year. Please let us know if you would like to become active in CWA of Washington. We currently are praying for a Legislative Liaison and a Communications Coordinator, and we can always use more Prayer/Action Chapter Leaders! You will find job descriptions on the state website under “CWA of Washington Leadership Opportunities”. Please contact the office for a leadership application and join us!

We appreciate your support of our work to protect and promote Biblical values in the State of Washington. Please use the attached form to renew your membership, to join CWA of Washington or to support CWA of Washington with a gift. You may also join on the state website: http://wa.cwfa.org. We exist because of the faithful members who stand alongside us with prayer for the organization and its leaders and with their faithful giving to the work we do here in the state.

“The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” (James 5:16)

In His Service,

Maureen Richardson
