8-29-12 Action Alert – Choosing Godly Leaders

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

ACTION ALERT AUGUST 29, 2012
CHOOSING GODLY LEADERS

Dear CWA of Washington Members,

Greetings! On October 12, 1816, John Jay, the first Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court, admonished:

Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty, as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers.

In I Timothy 2:1-3, Paul admonishes us to pray and intercede for “all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.”

If the Holy Scriptures admonish us to pray for those in authority in order to live with godliness and reverence, can there be any question that we must vote according to our consciences and our values? Life, marriage, and the First Amendment itself are all issues this election year in addition to other vitally important secular subjects such as the nation’s financial status. As a non-partisan organization, CWA will not and cannot enter into the partisan politics of the current season, but we do encourage our members to follow John Jay’s advice to select and prefer leaders who share their values, and we pray that your actions will be preceded and followed by prayer for revival in this nation with a return to our Judeo-Christian heritage, as referred to by Justice Jay and so many of our founders.

SHE VOTES 2012

Please check out CWA national’s campaign to encourage conservative women of faith to vote in 2012: https://concernedwomen.org/SheVotes2012.asp

If every CWA of Washington member would go out and register two other Christians and make sure they vote, we could elect more social conservatives to office. Seek approval from your pastor; then set up a voter registration area in your church (totally legal since it’s non-partisan!) and encourage your pastor to remind people to vote in November for those who best represent Biblical values. For voter registration forms, visit your local library (for small amounts) or order them from your county election office.

Registration deadlines in Washington State for the November 6th election:

*29-day mail-in registration and address change is October 8, 2012 (that’s Columbus Day with no mail delivery, however, so your form must be mailed in by Saturday, October 6).

*8-day deadline (in person at your county elections office) is Monday, October 29, 2012.

REFERENDUM 74

From the responses to my last action alert, there is obviously still some confusion regarding Referendum 74 to reject the bill passed by the legislature last session which expands the definition of marriage beyond the traditional one-man-plus-one-woman definition. Remember and share the three R’s: Referendum 74 Rejects the Redefinition-of-marriage bill (SB 6239). Yes, we need to vote “Rejected” on R-74 in order to reject bill SB 6239 which redefines marriage to be more than just one man plus one woman.

By nature, referendums can be confusing since in order to pass a referendum on a bill passed by the state legislature, we need to reject the bill enclosed in the referendum. Referendums are referrals of bills to the people for their opinion. You only see referendums asking us to reject a bill (same as Referendum 71 in 2009). Here is the specific “Statement of Subject”: The legislature passed Engrossed Substitute Senate Bill 6239 concerning marriage for same-sex couples, modified domestic-partnership law, and religious freedom, and voters have filed a sufficient referendum petition on this bill. “Concise Description”: This bill would allow same-sex couples to marry, preserve domestic partnerships only for seniors, and preserve the right of clergy or religious organizations to refuse to perform, recognize, or accommodate any marriage ceremony.

Next line: Should this bill be: ___Approved __X__Rejected

Unfortunately, the Secretary of State’s office put in language from the bill which is purposely confusing in order to seem as if you are rejecting domestic partnerships for seniors and religious liberty for clergy and religious organizations as well as same-sex marriages. If you go to our website (www.//wa.cwfa.org), you can read in earlier action alerts my lengthier explanations of why we must stop/reject SB 6239 from becoming law in our state.

Please pray that people will understand they are rejecting SB 6239 through R-74 and thus maintaining our current Defense of Marriage Act between one male and one female.

PRAYER, EDUCATION, ACTION these are Concerned Women for America’s primary goals. Won’t you consider becoming an active member? How about starting a Prayer/Action Chapter in your neighborhood or church? Or perhaps a Home Team is your style, if you’re more inclined to send e-mails. We need some more people to round out our state steering committee as well: Legislative Liaison, Communications Coordinator, PAL/HTC Coordinator. Are you interested? What is your gifting? You will find descriptions of these positions on the state website: http://wa.cwfa.org. We’d love to have you join the CWA of Washington leadership team to spark revival in our state!

The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. James 5:16

Faith by itself, if not accompanied by action, is dead. James 2:17

Let it be impressed on your mind that God commands you to choose for rulers just men who will rule in the fear of God. Exodus 18:21
