CONCERNED WOMEN FOR AMERICA OF WASHINGTON

ACTION ALERT

JULY 20, 2011

Are You Sleeping?

Dear Concerned Women for America of Washington Member,

This past Sunday, one of my pastors challenged the congregation with the following question: “Are you sleeping?” His sermon was based on Matthew 26:36-46 which shares this information:

(Jesus to Peter, James and John) “Stay here and keep watch with me.” Going a little farther, He fell with His face to the ground and prayed

Then He returned to His disciples and found them sleeping. “Could you men not keep watch with me for one hour?” he asked Peter. “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”

He went away a second time and prayedWhen he came back, He again found them sleepingSo He left them and went away once more and prayed the third time

Then He returned to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour is near, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. Rise, let us go! Here comes my betrayer.”

The pastor observed that while the eleven disciples slept rather than pray, there was one disciple awake and busy outside the garden – Judas, the betrayer. So the question again is “Are you sleeping?” Is your church sleeping? Is it aware of the deception and betrayal surrounding it? Will you awaken and defend the faith? Will you pray? Will you encourage, participate or perhaps even lead a prayer group in your church or community? Prayer is CWA’s first priority followed by education and action. We urge every leader and member to pray before anything else: “Prayer is not preparation for the battle, prayer is the battle.” (E.M. Bounds)

EVENT

We have an opportunity to join the call to pray and fast on Saturday, August 6. Called The Response: A Call to Prayer For a Nation in Crisis, Gov. Rick Perry of Texas is leading a Christian prayer service in Houston to seek forgiveness, healing and blessing for our country. He has asked other states to join Texas in this event. At this point, Gov. Gregoire has refused to proclaim August 6 as a state day of prayer and fasting. Now it’s up to the Body of Christ to organize events around the state. Please join CWA of Washington in prayer for this event, called simply The Response. Pray about locations, time, etc. and also about your involvement. There will be a 24-hour prayer vigil in Olympia, and CWA of Washington is scheduled to lead prayer on the Capitol steps from 9 a.m. until noon, and we pray for and need your participation. Please save the date on your calendar and plan to join us for this day of prayer and fasting.

If you are unable to attend the Olympia event, please consider what you can do; talk to your pastor, a prayer team, and your friends. OR you may choose to host a prayer event in a home, a park, etc. if your church chooses not to participate. Just be sure to DO something! For more information about The Response, please visit http://theresponseusa.com/

If you would like to have us post your event on our state website (http://wa.cwfa.org) so that others can join you, please send us the details (director@washington.cwfa.org).

James 5:16 “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”

James 2:17 “Faith by itself, if not accompanied by action, is dead.
